Rattlesnake is best cooked over a open flame on a skewer for 45 Min's until tender. However since you took it home, then your going have to fry it. Yes you can actually eat rattlesnake. I wouldn't though. Let the people know if it "tastes like chicken" Bonn ape-tit!

Chop of the head asap! bury it deep enough so animals can't dig it up, or incinerate it. Even a dead snake can bite at least once. Use a very sharp knife to slit open the snakes belly from the neck to about two inches from the rattle. Hold the knife at a shallow angle with the blade pointing up as you slice to avoid rupturing any of it's internal organs. once it is slit open scoop out and discard the guts. At this point it should pretty much look like a gutted trout . Using your knife, slice from the center out towards the edges between the meat and the skin from neck to tail. Scrape off any missed pieces of meat from skin and stretch it on a board to dry. It will eventually take on a tough leather like texture as it dries. The meat can be cooked just like chicken, rabbit or frog meat and will resemble those meats cooked as a whitish and smooth texture. It is fairly bland with a slight gamy flavor like frog and rabbit, so if you don't like that go with a good BBQ sauce or a spicy marinate or Cajun style seasoning to mask it. It is lean and healthy. Enjoy.

Filet the meat from the ribs (or just pull the skin off and clean the guts out) and soak the meat for 24 hours in salty water to get rid of the gamey flavour. Then either deep fat fry the meat or put some vegetable oil in a large frying pan and fry that snake up! Salt to taste.

Yum, that sounds good. You're lucky to have found that snake.

You should cook it the same way one would cook an eel. Smoking it is the best way to get all that flavour. But I also recommend baking it wih a bit of olive oil.

Good luck!
