Yes, cats can get heartworms. It's very uncommon and they usually do not get very serious infections (usually only a few worms) and their immune system usually kills the parasites on it's own. Cats get heartworms the same way dogs do, by being bitten by an infected mosquito. There is heartworm preventative for cats: Heartgard makes a chewable tablet, just like for dogs. Revolution also protects against mosqitos. I'm a vet tech and we usually recommend using Revolution for cats. I've heard people say that their cats won't eat the Heartgard chewable but my cats gobble it up.
I recommend discussing this with your vet. They can probably provide you with literature on the various products available and help you decide what's right for you and your pet.

Cats can get heartworms, too. They are transmitted by mosquitos.
I've heard Revolution is the best all-around prevention for dogs and outdoor cats.

Unfortunately, cats can get it too. It is passed on by mosquitoes. There is a heartworm preventative for cats, you have to get it at the vet, however, there is no cure for cats, the medicine is too strong for them. I know this because my favorite kitty, Pooh, has got them. I'm so sad, I hope he can kick it.

Yes, cats can get heartworms. Check with your vet to have your cat tested and then put on preventative treatment.
I have 2 kittens and my vet put them on Revolution which is for flea prevention, ear mites and heartworm protection.

Cats can also get heartworm disease. I saw actual photos of it at my vet's office. As with dogs there is medication available for prevention.

YES cats CAN get heartworms. You can put them on Heartguard, but you have to get the perscription from a Vet.

These people are wrong. YES, cats can get heartworm. They sell the product Heartgaurd for them at veterinary offices.

Yes, cats can. Not as common as in dogs because cats are not generally exposed to as many mosquitoes as dogs are.
