I have taken a polygraph test before for a job in law enforcement. I told the truth but they said that I failed. Are there any tips that will help me pass this test?

See what you think about this site?

He says:

Did you know that the examiner is the one that decides whether or not you are lying and not the actual machine?

If you failed and did not lie, then most likely you were very nervous. The machine works by measuring three things.... respiration(how fast, deeply and frequency), perspiration ( you sweat when you lie) and blood pressure. The manner in which the questions are asked are also designed to get at the truth. most relevant questions are asked more than once. This is to get you thinking more about the subject so that a more truthful result will be obtained by the examiner. These tests are not fool proof. If you failed and wish to proceed, ask for another try and explain to the examiner how you feel and what you think about after each session.

Telling the truth usually helps most. The most important thing is to be as calm and comfortable as possible. If you're nervous or jumpy the needle on the graph will get jumpy, too. Also, try to answer the questions aloud as soon as your brain has finished processing the question. If you take too long to answer the question, the odds are you've thought a little too hard about it. Be quick and concise in your responses. Hey, no nicotine, caffine, or other additives in your diet for a good 24 hours or more before the test. Go organic, and be hydrated.

When you go for the test explain to the polygrapher that you are nervous and would like that to be taken into account when they evaluate your results. If you have anything in your background that you think might be a problem discuss it with the examiner and that will take the stress off of you when you take the test.

I have passed many polygraphs. You must act like there is no way of them finding information about it. You can pass a polygraph with extreme confidence.

Don't lie. As far as your previous test, sometimes they consider the fact that you told the truth but they didn't like what you admitted to as failing the test.

Try to take something to calm your nerves down before you go in; Tylenol usually works for me. Just don't overdose! lol. Not that you would!

Mostly, just stay as calm as you can. If you find yourself shaking a little, try to relax completely. You can also try thinking about something else as you make your statement.
