My favorite drinks include Newcastle Ale, Vodka-Cranberry, Vodka-RedBull, SoCo and Soda, Cadillac Magaritas (no salt), Jager Bombs, Chocolate Cake Shots (Vodka/Frangelico), Patron or Cazadores Tequila Shots, and Surfer on Acid shots. Given my favorites, will I enjoy a Martini? Should I try a Vodka Martini first given my favoritism for vodka? It also concerns me a bit that I don't like olives, is not eating the olive considered bad form? Can you get a martini without an olive?

the olive is to contribute a bit of oil to the mix. eating it is kind of bad form -- like sucking on a fruit garnish would be bad form too. they make tons of flavored martinis at martini bars now that are esentially mixed drinks in martini glasses. if you like a shot of a good vodka straight up try a martini -- and you can twist instead of olive -- you get a bit of lemon zest twisted into it to add the oil instead of an olive. oh -- and get it extra dry -- a lot of vermouth is kind of nasty -- so you want a vodka (insert your favorite vodka brand instead) martini extra dry with a twist -- got it? if you hurl just don't get one again.

You probably won't like martini's. Your drinks of choice all have a sweet undertone (masking the alcohol flavor), with the exception of the shots (which go down so fast you don't really taste them anyway!). Martini's are pretty much chilled liquor with a slight amount of vermouth. I am a huge vodka fan but can't get down a straight vodka martini. There are a few other varieties of martini (like the lemon drop) I would suggest one of those....oh & you are fine if you don't eat the olive.

If you don't like olives then you will not like the classic martini, vodka or gin.
There are several different kinds of martinis without olives. Such as:

Cosmopolitan (my favorite)
vodka
triple sec
splash of cranberry
squeeze of lime

Apple tini
vodka
apple pucker
splash of sweet and sour
garnish with a cherry

chocolate martini
Godiva chocolate liquor
vodka
dark creme de cocoa

You can have a vodka martini w/ a twist, just like James Bond. But it'd an acquired taste & will probably take a while to like, especially if you preferred sweet mixed drinks. I'd go w/ the traditional 007 vodka martini, though. It's classy.

Gosh, you can't make decisions very well can you? Yes, try a vodka martini it you like vodka and no on the olive either have them hold it or don't eat it, it's ok not to. It sounds like you like alcohol and a varity so, go for them all an pick what you like the best next time.

Based on your choice of drinks you will love martini's! I live in Chicago and there are martini bars everywhere that serve any flavored martini you can think of from a "fruit loop" to a "Chocolate" martini. The one with the olive is just one of the kinds of martinis that exist.

You may or may not like them. The one thing you need to remember is that a martini is a sipping drink. Sip small amounts and savor the taste. If you drink too much, then it overwhelms your tongue.

I would suggest starting off with gin. Straight vodka can be a bit intimidating.

You may or may not. But at least try it. Me, can't stand vodka or sweet drinks, but love gin. And I like my martinis without vermouth. Gin & olives. But you can do a twist, or nothing at all.

I heard the James Bond was 3 parts gin, 1 part vodka, dash of vermouth and a lemon twist. I tried this recently and it's actually pretty good.

based on your favorites a Martini is the last thing I would offer you!! you can get a martini without an olive and without olive juice, but then its basically chilled vodca and dry vermouth. neither of which taste very good!!
