i would go to costco. buy the huge block of MILD cheddar chesse. whatever pasta you want. shred about half the block (for 4 people as a side dish), add a lil milk a lil butter. stir the cheese on low to mild and it should melt nicely. if your really worried about burning the chesse instead of melting. you could use a double boiler. a huge pot of boiling water put a round bowl on top. make sure a lil less then half the bowl will be sitting in the boiling water. and stir stir stir! then add the cooked pasta and the chesse and mix well.
but what i like to do is an extra step i put the mixed pasta and chesse and put it in the oven and add more fresh shreded cheddar on top and let it cook in the oven for about 10 mins on 300 degrees.
i like the box mac and cheese but how can a box comepete with home made?? come on people that powder packet is scary. use real cheese!!! and that valveeta **** is nasty! dont use it!

Hi there dear, you need to use processed cheese slices. They are usually soft and are not made in the same way as normal cheese is. The ingredients are usually more butter, and whey (i buy vegetarian or halal ones). With these the cheese melts and isnt too strong. You will get that cheese burger feel! Take care...

i've made home made mac and cheese before and honestly all i did, was boil noodles, drain, mix in half a jar of cheese whiz and 4 slices of the velveeta cheese. that was the best mix i had ever done to make it home made. or now if you look in your spaghetti sauce aisle they do make a cheese sauce now.

good luck and don't be afraid to make up your own concoction.

Try velveeta, or cheez whiz, or kraft singles slices....
But it would be easier and way cheaper to just buy the box, then prepare it however you want, using the packet of powder for cheese...

Oh, please get over yourself. Just buy Kraft Mac and Cheese and make it. It tastes great and it's less expensive than the arrogance of some homemade version you're after.
