The what is knowing the truth, not controlling your mind.
You will most likely start to control your actions, to live a better life, but not your mind, it will work more and question more after becoming a Christian than less.

Organized religion is in fact all about social control: conformity, community, cohesion, obedience to taboos. "Spiritual" praxis is about acheiving some personal result, whether supernatural abilities, persona' purification, communion with non-corporeal entities.

Not ALL religion, but I would have to say that certain religions seem to restrict your free will. My religion gives you plenty of "wiggle room".
