I just bought a Fujica STX-1 film camera yesterday and the film advance lever won't advance.

Also, last night, the viewfinder was working fine. I was haivng fun, focusing, even without any film to possibly get a picture. And then this morning, I can't see anything through it.

Are these two things fixable? There is a camera repair shop about a mile away from my house. And if they are able to be fixed, how much do you think it would cost?

Besides that, anyone have tips for using a Fujica STX-1?

I didn't buy it at a shop. I bought it from a private person. I really want to keep this camera because I love old film cameras, much better than digital.

Take off the lens. If you can't see a mirror, then it (the mirror) is locked in the 'up' position; the mirror should only be 'up' for the time the shutter is open - then it goes down again so you can see thru the lens again. Probably you need a CLA (Clean, Lube,Adjust). Prices vary for this service. Look on the web for 'Carol Flutot' who specializes in old, NON-digital camera repair, has reasonable prices, and is a shutter expert. Flutot Camera Repair has been in business since the 1940's in Whittier, California. Good Luck!

hey i have an ST-801 and the advance lever thing happens all the time, just have to use a little force, also try wiggling it up and down, the mirror has locked up fot the viewfinder part, try gently to pull it down when you take off the lens, if not dont risk breaking it,they are very expensive and delicate!

Dang, talk about old-school...take it to the shop and have to guy look at it. An old camera like that is worth keeping...it'll help you learn the basics that a digital never will.
