Hi since i can rememeber i have swelling and pain in my knees and joints, but recently about the last year or so the pain has come into my hip and left side of my back, and my toe joint is also swollen and aches the same ache as my legs and back do. I have been to the doctors and he hasnt said what it is yet, he used to tell me it was growing pains but now i am older and there is pain in other areas im thinking it could be something else i think the doctor also thinks this as there is nothing i do that can cause my joints to swell, The pain is always there and the i was given ibuprofen and it takes the swelling down a little, but as soon as i stop taking them it come back swollen and very sore. my legs and also my foot and toe. Dose arthritis spread? I have to go back to get my joints checked but i dont want to mention arthritis. As i aint really sure about the symtoms.

It depends on the type of arthritis. I would go to your doctor and get some clarifications.

Arthritis doesn't spread as such, but it can affect several joints. What you describe sounds very painful and I'm sorry you're in so much pain, it must be worrying for you. Your doctor may want to do a blood test to check for several possible causes of the pain, and probably some x-rays too. Once a diagnosis is made then the correct treatment can begin. Don't worry about mentioning arthritis to your doctor, write down any questions you have (even if you think they're silly!) and take them with you to ask. Your doctor will be happy to answer them for you and put your mind at rest. Good luck :)

Yes,as someone who suffers with osteoarthritis I can tell you that it does spread.Mine started in my right knee resulting in a knee replacement as I could'nt walk in the end.My other knee is heading the same way,but is being controlled by medication, and now I get pins and needles in my hands and my left thumb all of a sudden won't move properly without severe pain being felt. For you to only be on ibuprofen,I am wondering if you have got arthritis,it seems strange that your doctor hasn't recommended something a lot stronger if you are in constant pain and have been for some years now. You don't say how old you are,so it is a little hard to diognose. But swelling and painful joints usually add up to arthritis. I sympathise , I know what the pain is like, I hope your doctor finds out exactly what your problem is and prescribes you some medication to help with the pain.Best wishes.

Extremely sorry to hear that you are suffering from Arthritis. Well besides it so happens is that your Uric Acid in the body increases as well.

This is a genetic problem.

To answer to your query, yes arthritis spreads to other joints.

Arthritis cannot be cured but it can be controlled using certain medicines.

Doctors generally prefer give medicine called as 'Zyloric' - a Burroughs Welcome Product which controls the Uric Acid.

However, how long can you survive on medication.
Once your body is habituated to it, the medicine stops reacting and this leads to further pains in your other parts of the body.

One suggestion is that you need to do a lot of exercise or you can also opt for radiotherapy which gives you temporary relief from such pains.

Over a period of time, you'll realise that you start getting nerves pulls which is really very painful.

I'll definitely pray that you get diagnosed.

Hi. This sounds like osteoarthritis, there are two different types. Arthrititis is known as degenerative bone disease, it does gets worse and can affect any joints. I am a nurse but also have osteoarthritis. It sounds like you need some treatment to ease your pain and swelling. I can advice you what i take, i self medicate myself because i knew the best stuff to use. I look up all the medicine in the british medical journals. Firstly you need cod-liver-oil 1000mg a day, you can buy this at any chemist. If you look on ebay for 'Flexicose' this is the best mix of liquid Glucosamine on the market. This will do better than any anti-inflamatory you get from your doctor and it re-generates cartlidge. These are both herbal treatments and have NO side effects. Co-codamol is a good pain killer if you can not sleep with pain at night, you will need a prescription from your doctor for this. I also advise you to keep moving and keep fit, swimming is the best for arthritis suffers. Hope this helps. All the best.

Imagine for a moment your arthritis completely vanishing right now.

If, in a moment, your pain and stiffness melted away. And your joints all of a sudden functioned like a well-oiled machine.

Like a magic wand was waived, you'd be able to jump up from your chair and run around the room like a kid.

And imagine that you'd never have to suffer as much as a pinch of arthritis stiffness or pain ever again.

I know this sounds impossible right now, but bear with me, because sometimes miracles happen.

It was a gift from a woman on the other side of the world. From the kindness of her heart, she took pity on my suffering and taught me how to completely reverse my arthritis.

Today, I want to do the same for you!

Arthritis can not spread as in - it is not a disease etc... However stress on areas of the body to over come arthritis can help it to develop in other areas - the condition can spread but not the cause.
I'm no doctor - I was in training once and got bored, however growing pains does seem to be one option. Excess consumption of anti-inflammatory tablet IE. Ibuprofen can actually make the situation worse as well so be careful with the limits.

I have had similar pains since 2001, I was taking one aspirin a day and it did help. I never went to the doctors until a few months ago for something else. He claimed that the pains around my face and neck were arthritis, after some tests and ex-ray he prescribed me ETODOLAC SA 500MG 1 a day. I took the tablets for two days and after that I threw them away. I got so sick. Now I don't take anything I just put up with the pain, as arthritis is not curable, all they give you is pain killers for it. I exercise and do stretches that helps for awhile. In the cold weather keep your neck warm and wear gloves too. Its a waste of time and money going to the doctors for arthritis. Good luck.
