In the state of NJ the father has to be present in order for his name to be on the birth certificate because BOTH parents need to sign. If you aren't sure of the laws in your state of residence, you're best bet is to have a paternity test done immediately after the baby is born. FYI - if you go this route, you will have to pay out of pocket for the paternity test.

Yes, and if you aren't sure about it when the baby is born request an immediate paternal testing to see if you are the father, if not the name will be removed from the Birth certificate

I would clear this up straight away. I wouldn't want my name NOT on a birth certificate if the child is mine.

This is something you do NOT want to be wrong about.

Is it possible that you are just having anxieties about the responsiblities of being a father?

Talk to someone about getting it determined one way or the other if you are sure something is up. But make sure you are sure. Because Mothers' have LONG memories.

DNA test may be simple but costly! I f the woman is on welfare in Canada she can ask for the test so that the father helps with child support. If the man does turn out to be the father he also pays for the test which is around a $1,000can

It depends on what state you ae in. Most states no longer let a woman just add a name to a birth certificate. They require the father's signature. Don't sign if you are unsure. DNA testing is inexpensive. I have seen it as low as $160.

if u think you are not the father then u should get a DNA test by court . so that it could be legal because if it was already on there u still have to go to court. also if u are legally married with this person she could have put you're last name because is her last name . but if u signed the paternity papers with not knowing what it was u have a case.

Both parents sign the birth certificate. When you sign you're admitting paternity. Don't sign. Ask for DNA testing.'

No, you have to be present. Otherwise, the child must take the mothers maiden name.

Ironically, any male can "claim" he is the father and have his name on the certificate, as long as no one is there to contest it and the mother agrees.
