Here's my predicament...My mom was raised by her aunt and grandmother after my grandma passed away when my mom was seven. She knows who her real father is, but wasn't allowed to see him (Catholic family didn't support the situation, given that my moms parents weren't married). My mom has no interest in contacting him, but I can't help but let curiousity get the better of me. Am I out of line to keep thinking about this? How should I handle this situation?

A copy of your mother's birth certificate may assist. As long as he is listed as the father. That is public record. You can do this without involving her too much. Also, tell your mom how you feel. Maybe once you meet him you will not want to be involved either. BUT, it may be something he has been thinking of all these years as well. Good luck to you.

Just explain to your mom that you don't want to hurt her and will avoid it at all costs, but you need to know your roots. If you don't meet your grand-father soon, sorry to appear insensitive, but you may not get another chance. I lost both my parents and realise how little I knew about their parents. It's too late for me, but not for you. Give your mom a hug, tell her how much you love her,and if she does'nt want to be involved, then that's fine by you. Good luck
