Cats have there own version of the flu that's a different strain than people get. But then again, the flu is ever changing and is always different. If he's very sick, you should take him to the vet and have him checked out. There are severel possible respiratory conditions that it could be.

Cats can not get YOUR flu (we'll have to wait and see about avian flu OK?)
But cats do get several viruses that are like the flu, distemper being the one most people are familiar with, and distemper is also the one that some people (used to) call 'cat flu'.
Of course if you have a sick kitty, you go to the vet, but if you have the flu, rest, drink fluids and enjoy your cat snuggling on you.

No. They can't get the flu from you. However, they can catch similar things that only cats get. One of my cats caught what my vet called "the cat version of bronchitis", she was horrible, her breathing sounded harsh, she started sneezing a lot. She brought it home from getting spayed at the Humane Society. That was a $650 vet bill. Ouch! But she's good now.
If you think your cat may have something, just pay attention to there behavior. Things like, if they're usually really cuddly and all the sudden they are hiding underneath the bed for the whole day that's not a good sign. And more obvious things like sneezing and breathing patterns...
Good luck!

Yes they can. The strain that cats get is different from those that humans get, but I know first hand they can. My cat had it several times along with upper respiratory infections when he was a kitten.
