Buddhism vs. Christianity?

I'm Atheist, but I think this comparison is interesting. There is true love here and also the feigning of love.

Buddhism-
-Buddha (not saviour, or god) reached spiritual enlightenment and ultimate empathy with others. Spreads teachings similar to Jesus.
-Afterlife gives people second chances, in fact infinite chances, to reach spiritual enlightenment.
-People of all religions can reach enlightenment, there is no hell.

Christianity-
-Jesus (son of God, and in some sects, God) taught rules similar to Buddha in love thy naighbor
-Afterlife, hell for non-believers, no second chance, only true way to reach heaven is through one religion.
-Deeds do not matter, only religion


Now what do you think of that comparison, what do you think is more loving and accepting? Even as an Atheist I say the deeds of one religion is more open than the other.

True, I do not know of the bible verses, but it seems that Christians only use bible verses as a defense, and I've seen the verses used to promote deeds of faith, or deny it.

That is love, and I do punish my children, however, when my children misbehave, I do not damn them forever and for eternity. That is not love, that is pure, unwarranted hatred. Punishments are for teaching children. And what can you learn if your damned to hellfire, nothing other than a hatred for the one who put you there.

Buddha has taught the way to cease the suffering.
Every one in this world are suffering.
He taught the way to end this sufferings.
Buddha did not represent another powerful invisible figure to preach his knowledge and was his own master. To the layman he taught how to live a good, sincere, happy and a purposeful life and proposed some guidelines to follow to achieve these objectives. Those who do good deeds are rewarded with positive results and vice versa he said. He also said those who want to improve the mind should practise to eliminate selfishness, hatred, anger and ignorance. He said right view, right resolve, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, and right concentration will lead to cessation of sorrow and to attain Nirvana the ultimate peace .

So you can't compare Buddhism and Christianity.They are very different.
Buddhism is logical in everyway.It is not an updating religon.

First, Jesus didnt teach what Buddha taught. Jesus taught what Jesus taught. That was completely God in the flesh. Do you have children? What do you do when they disobey you? Do you praise them and give them candy? No, you punish them. It has nothing to do with acceptance. God loves you, as He is a FATHER. If you disobey Him, what do you deserve? Punishment. What did my Father do for me? Well, He came down onto this earth, was beaten, humiliated, and crucified for my sins, as a sacrifice in my place. How much more love does He have to show you? He could have condemned us all, but He provided a way for us to live without having to sacrifice animals. All He wants is your heart. Did you know in Heaven, Jesus will be the only one with scars still on His body, while we sit around looking and feeling perfect? And He was happy to do it so that we might sit with Him and love Him. I think that is far more loving than Buddha or anyone else could have ever been.

I was raised Catholic(school too) and never believed the stories(of the bible) and generally despised the way we were abused by the nuns and priests. I completely renounced religion until I found Buddhism in my mid 20's. Just felt more at peace with their way of thought. I know many Christians who make fun of my meditations and I respect their church rituals and will even participate at family functions. What ever makes you happy and gets you through tough times.

Yes I agree Buddhism seems more loving and accepting hands down. I also have noticed that Buddhists are peace loving and very gentle in nature (personal observation here) in contrast I have seen many Christians who do nothing but insult and hate people who don't believe like them. (not all Christians, I know some who really are lovely people) I have yet to meet a hateful Buddhist. :) my two cents

Religions cannot love.

Only when you accept the gift of love from God through the mercy of his Son can you speak with any authority about love. Until then, you are stuck in dim comparisons and approximations.

Are Buddhists arguably more accepting? Quite possibly. This is because they don't know Truth, and so an approximation of it is acceptable. For a Christian, an approximation of Truth is just another phrase to describe a lie.

Okay, let me clear things up a bit

In Buddhism you don't get a second chance which is why you're reborn and that is suffering.
In Chris. you get a second chance by asking for forgivness which i find distorted because if you kill 20 people, will he grant you forgiveness? maybe
Whereas Buddhism, if you kill 20 people, you're probably gonna live those 20 lives and suffer the way the victims suffered.

Ask this, Which religion has a more Just God? In Christianity God punishes unbelivers because he is a Just Judge, I choose to serve that God, rather then a god that compromises because man can't suck it up and suffer a little on earth in order to have eternal life in heaven.

It is not a matter of which religion is more "nice". It is a matter of which one is more likely to be true. Life is full of unpleasant truths that we have to accept, like it or not. If someone gives me news that is too good to be true (like, I just won a million dollars in the lottery, or that all people are automatically forgiven & go to heaven irregardless of their sins), then it is probably not true. Actions have consequences. If someone told me that my boss would just forgive me and would pay me the same whether I showed up for work or not, I would have a reason to be skeptical.

As far as I know, Buddha never came back from the dead. There seems to be nothing special about him. Jesus came back from the dead, and showed himself to over five hundred witnesses to prove that he was still alive. Since many of these people who claimed to have seen Jesus alive again were willing to be tortured to death rather than recant their story, their testimony seems to be believable. I think that a liar would eventually tell the truth to save his own life, don't you? Seems like Jesus knew something that no one else has figured out since everyone else who died stayed dead.

Besides, as some people probably pointed out already, why would someone want to go to heaven anyway if he didn't like God or his rules? Wouldn't an eternity in Heaven with a God that you didn't like be another form of hell? And why should God continue to give people the gift of pleasure, or the gift of comfort if a person wants God to stop interfering with his existence? One cannot fault God for finally leaving people alone, outside of creation in complete formless darkness for all of eternity, if they do not want to be part of God's plans anymore. Why would God want to spend eternity with an ingrate who hates him? God will not force someone to change.

Someone once wrote a book implying that Jesus was Buddha.

p.s when did Jesus say he was son of Gd & when did he tell ppl to make a religion out of him.
