I don't use the tv remote, but a universal remote. The tv one is put aside in case I ever sell the tv.
You can buy preprogrammed universal remotes, or ones that have most current tv codes in them. Or you can buy a replacement from the manufacturer ro even Ebay. Most manufacturer remotes work on the same brand anyway (meaning, tv model 123's remote works on tv model 456, if they are both Panasonic, Sony, JVC, etc.).
