My stepson is 5 almost 6 in 3 weeks and he is a constant whiner and sort of a crybaby . He ask simple questions, but in a whiney way. The other neighbor kids come to play and they end up leaving because he whines to them about being first or wanting to play what he wants and then he will start crying. I don't know what to do for him the other boys have called him a baby. Any suggestions?

I think you should ignore anything he says or asks for in a whinny voice. Plus if he is a step-son you should try and have a peacful sit down with birth mom and come up with something you both follow through on.

Im a hardliner : You should tell him with a firm voice to talk like a boy if ha wants respect from other boys and not to be treated like a baby... or worse lika a girl. I believe that adults have 99% influence in infants personality development and even sexual orientation (by this I don´t mean in any way that he is girlish whatsoever).

make a chart with the days of the week and for every day that he does not cry or whine he gets a gold star and at the end of the week he can cash them in for a treat.(take a star away if he does cry or whine). This worked for me.

are you giving enough attemtions to him? Are you trying to talk with him with things he might have some querry and that things that he feels importamt but you just ignore? Try to talk with him and try to tell him hes already big and coming to become a big somebody. Maybe he just feel hes still a baby and that he always think all he wants and likes he can easily gets. Comfort him in a way that he will feel hes already a mature one. Try to told him he will soon become somebody a little kid can depend. Let him feel hes grown up. I think your son is just feeling very baby and always felt hes pitiful when hes alone.

i told mine " if you want something then to ask without whining , if you whine i will not get it or do it. ask me in a normal voice and i will do it. " after a couple days of not getting things he stopped doing it. and hasn't done it in months.

My son was like that and I finally told him if he wanted to be a grown boy then he needs to talk like a grown boy. Actually I said if you wnat to be like dad then start acting like a dad, and stop whinning and grow up!!!! He still does occasionally but it's not so bad.

Ignore him if he whines about something and if he asks for something in a whiny voice then ignore him until he can ask you in a polite voice.
