Sorry, how is the the TV licence a stealth tax when the money goes directly to the BBC and does not pass through the treasury or any other government department.Yes the government approves the rate of the licence but all the money raised is used by the BBC to cover TV, radio, and online enterprises.A better example of a stealth tax is the national lottery where the British Government uses revenue from the National Lottery to help fund public spending.
It's publicly funded, I have no problem with that (same argument as the NHS really, we all have to pay for it whether we use it or not) considering the breath of programming. If it's an argument of value for money, how much is the cheapest Sky package - £15 a month (£180 a year) and more to keep the Sky+ service and there's still adverts??!!

The TV licence is the biggest rip off in England....(apart from petrol)...we're being forced to pay for something that most people hardly use...
Think about it....if you have sky/cable and you hardly watch the movies then you wouldn't pay for the movies channels would you.,.. but what would happen if sky/cable forced you to pay for the most expensive package JUST in case you wanted to watch a movie on a Saturday night? They wouldn't do it because people wouldn't pay.....so what gives the BBC the right to pinch money from every house hold for a very bad service?
If the country stuck together and refused to pay then what would the BBC do...????? would they try and send us all to prison?
The BBC should try a pay as you watch scheme, this would show how utterly disgusted people are with there service.

No it is not a "Stealth TX" as it is a declared and known amount to be paid.
A Stealth Tax is something that Silently and almost Secretly creeps into the system so that you are paying it without necessarily knowing.
Stealth Taxes are imposed by charging indirectly for a service that you might have believed to have been included for free, such as for parking at a hospital that you attend for ostensibly free treatment, for example.

No it isn't. Despite undeniably dumbing down in some respects, the BBC still produces the best TV in the UK. BBC Radio 4 is the best radio station in the whole goddamn world. And some people do appreciate not having their enjoyment of a TV or radio show interrupted every five minutes by commercials.

Yes it is a stealth tax. You still have to pay for it even if you just watch dvds or videos.

Lets face it, who watches the crappy BBC?
Everything we touch now is a stealth tax, Blair has ruined this country and it's your fault if you were to idle to get up and vote.
