I am going on maternity leave and won't be getting paid at all and I'm already worrying about Christmas! My family always has a big Christmas and I know they understand that I can't spend alot but I love giving gifts. Does anyone have any ideas of great gifts that aren't so expensive?

Here's something I love to do. The most special gifts are the personalized ones that show thought and care. For example,
picture frames in dollar stores, or yard sales, or craft stores. You can get some nice ones from 50 cents to 5 dollars and decorate them yourself with rhinestones or scrapbooking pieces with a picture of your baby or an event with the person or people you're giving to. The decorations can either be your own color or ideas for trimming or they can relate to the event in the picture, such as a camping trip, holiday, birthday, etc. I recently did this for my best friend of many years and she was absolutely floored that I had this picture of us when we were just teenagers and in addition a poem she wrote me called "To a Fantastic Friend" . I framed and decorated them. She was so happy. Its October so you have some time. Happy Holidays!

One of my favorites is Cookies in a Jar!! Here's what you do......

1. Get out a recipe for your favorite cookies. (Oatmeal Chocolate Chip works awesome!)

2. Grab a clean mason jar (the larger size). These are available by pickling supplies and are quite cheap.

3. In the mason jar, layer the dry ingredients for the cookies (it'll look really neat, with all of the seperated layers)

4. Purchase some fabric and ribbon. Decorate the jar lid with the fabric and wrap ribbons around the jar.

5. Attach a little notecard to jar with the measurements for the wet ingredients and baking instructions.

6. Seal with a kiss!

You can also do bean soup, or muffin mix. Just get creative...even though they aren't expensive, creative gifts mean the most!

It is so stressful!!! I wish everyone would just agree to not give gifts but be better friends and family members minus the gifts! I'm not cheap: it is just so ridiculous and a year later do we even remember who gave what to whom? No. Okay, here's my suggestion: How about this: go to Big Lots (discount store) or Target or some local discount store where you can buy a bunch of Christmas mugs inexpensively. Fill them with M&M's (for example) and put a pretty bow on the mug handle and a Christmas tag with their name on it. You can buy bulk candy inexpensively also.

I know this is an obvious answer and may seem corny to some, but I think a great gift that isn't expensive is something home-made and from the heart.
Weather it be with yarn, paper, or what-have-you, anything crafty will do. Not only will it last a lifetime, it never has to be returned to a store and always has meaning.

Since you will be off of work, you could find some gifts to make. A homemade gift is always a great idea. Get a craft book and try making some.

Check out the $ store. pick up some picture frames. go through your old pictures-look for pictures of the person who you are giving the gift to, like pictures of you and them on the ski slope or where ever, copy the picture frame it and give it to them. Look for pictures when you both were young (something they had forgotten about) or a picture you have of their parents, something sentimental. Add a little note telling about the pic. where? when? etc.

The gift of your time is always appreciated(babysitting,etc.).
Books are a good bargain. I find deals at those dollar tree stores. No one really knows where they came from.Unless they're shopping there as well. Candles, novelty towels, incense, picture frames, small tokens of your love.

in case you purchase him a PSP, he will like it, of direction! in spite of the indisputable fact that, he would sense like a "bum" when you consider that he gained't be getting you a lot in any respect. I doubt you opt for him to sense like that, proper? So, supply him a present card for 0.5 the quantity of the PSP and allow HIM to earn some thing of the money it really is needed to purchase it! then you fairly aren't any more babying him, nor are you causing him to possibley sense like he's a loser for no longer figuring out to purchase you a lot.
