Its not your name that makes you the person you are.

Its what you are that makes your name special.

People can change their names. You just need to go to probate court and file the documents. Most people usually have an attorney file those for them. The court then rules on the request. Name changes can't be made to avoid bills, legal problems etc, as your social security number stays the same.

I think our parents should choose our second name and we should be allowed to pick our final first name when we are say, 16 or 18.

Are you kidding me? I helped name all 3 of our children and I feel that is something that we as the parents get to pass on to our children.... I also choose names that I felt they could grow old with.

You can change your name as soon as you're 18. But when would you choose your name and what would you be called until then? If we could choose our name as soon as we could say it, the world would be full of Noddys and Fimbles and Tinkie-Winkies.. not to mention Bob the Builders. And as we got older we would name ourselves after superstars and Barbies. Not very practical, I feel!!

If you are 18 or older you can change your name.
But unless something has changed since I gave birth in May, newborns aren't able to speak, much less choose their own names...............

I chose to change my name at 18. It was my legal right. But what would you have them call you until then?

And how would people call us before we are able to make a decision? Otherwise, it's perfectly possible to change one's name.

In most Far Eastern cultures they get to choose their own English name. So I think it's only fair we get to choose our own Madrin name!
