My budgie Buba just stands there opening and closing his wings, I have never seen him do this before in 5 years? I am wondering if he is just showing off. I just got a new budgie named Bandit, and his wings are clipped. Do you think Buba is just showing off saying look how nice my wings are? It is very funny to watch. Has anyone seen this before?

Yes, I have seen this before with my birds. You are exactly right that he is showing off. He is making himself appear bigger to the new bird, saying "if we ever get a female around here, she's mine." Also, are you sure that your new bird is male?? Sometimes we get fooled about thier sex, so Buba could be trying to court her! They also do this to stretch, but it's obvious when they're stretching.

He's just stretching...it feels good to stretch and exercise their wings.
He's also probably displaying for the benefit of the other budgie.
Palm Cockatoos do this at the top of a tree to announce that the nest hole in that tree is theirs. While they have their wings out, they beat on the tree with a stick they've snapped off to make a drumming noise It's a fascinating behavior and a true mark of tool use among birds.
Condors and Vultures often hold out their wings into the sunlight which feels great on their feathers giving them a dose of sun which is beneficial to them. It also has the added benefit of chasing away any little bugs that are trying to live in the feathers.

i don't have birds, but I would guess that its a territorial thing and Buba is just showing off as you say

sure I've heard of it before though...

I had a parakeet and it would open and close its wings to stretch. Another tip..When i bought my bird i thought that bird seed, water and treats were a good diet. My bird died the vet said from malnutrition (I was crushed) even though I took good care of my bird. There are treats called "millet spray" birds go crazy over them but they have no nutritional value. After my bird passed they told me he should have eaten vitamin fortified pellets and vitamins drops in there water. (Just something all bird owners should know)

Buba could be tired or is trying to tell u something.

if u leave ur hands at ur side, won't u need to stretch?
