OK...I just took it out of the freezer right now and set it out on the counter. It's a whole body chicken and I would like to cook it tonight. Did I wait to late to take it out for tonight? It's almost 1:00 in the afternoon here now... I'd like to start cooking by 5:30-6:00 pm...Thanks!

Leave it wrapped, place in a pot big enough to hold whole bird and place in sink and allow to thaw under cold running water.
There are three acceptable methods for thawing. One is under refrigeration, two is under cold running potable water and third is in a microwave(which we all know sucks). Any other method and you risk food borne illness.

Probably for 5:30 you waited too long. But if you will put it in the sink, covered with cold water and promise to change the water every 45 minutes or so, it will probably be defrosted by then. Make sure you rinse out the inside each time so the defrosting is happening from both inside and outside.

Thaw the chicken in the fridge overnight. Don't try and put it on the counter at room temperature, it's not sanitary. If you're in a big hurry use the micro-wave. Or go and buy some fresh.

I'd suggest you boil it and make chicken adn dumplings or chicken stew, something to thaw it quickly. You should allow 2 days for it to that in your refrigerator, sitting on a dinner plate to avoid chicken juice spills.

It depends on whether it has it's feathers or not.

But if you want to eat it tonight, submerge it in cold water for a couple of hours.
