I tried what the Vet gave me called Forbid , but to no avail , she still thinks its something to eat . GROSSED OUT !!! Help if anyone has had this problem and solved it PLZ Help !!! Other than this gross problem she is a great pup. She was the runt out of 9 pups and I'm wondering if thats why she does it , I just want her to stop! She's 60 lbs now and the Vet says shes healthy and growing good. I have her on Science Diet Puppy ( Large Breed ) she eats about 4 to 6 cups a day .

LOL! Puppies eat poop. Correct her when you see her doing it. Not a harsh correction, but like a No and then direct her attention to something else. You can try to put some meat tenderizer on her food to see if this helps. She will grow out of this stage too.

Yeah its pretty gross eh, but common.
My german shepard pup done the same thing.

They do it because they can
It smells like the food they have just eaten, if not a premium or vet line food.

Also with her being the runt of the litter, she would of had to try and battle with her 8 brothers and sisters to get a feed, so anything that smells remotely like food she will grab at.

I was about to say what food was she on?
Science puppy is a good brand.
I have my dog on Eukanuba, she loves it.
Try incorporating some nature roll with it, you can get these rolls from pet shops. They have no colours or preservatives, they come in 2.5kg rolls, $7.95 depending on where you live.

Dont make a big deal when she eats her poop if you dont pick it up in time, as this is getting your attention, which will promote her to eat it more.

Dont react at all, do as you were doing and clean up after she poops.

Also has she been wormed? she needs to be done every 3 months, for life if hasnt already started.

Try a bone, or pigs ears are a favourite, also pig snouts, trotters etc, you can get these at pet shops aswell.

Liver treats are great to promote good behaviour, if you see her walking over to her poop, call her and distract her attention away from it, tell her to sit, (hold the treat just above her head so she looks up, she should automatically place her bum down on the ground, they are very intelligent shepards so it will only take a few moments for her to realise what you want). Once she has sat give her the treat, say good girl! and tell her how wonderful she is, big cuddles etc. This is wonderful attention for her.

Is she in training?
I highely suggest that you take her to obedince school or puppy classes.
This is fabulous and i think should be mandatory, for all pet owners.
Training is of the utmost importance for the well being of your shepard and yourself. this will be a great experiece for you both.
Best of luck
Hope this has helped

You may want to make sure she is not missing any vital nutrients in her food. Many commercial dog foods leave out things that dogs need because AAFCO doesn't require them. Look for other products, and maybe step up the dose of Forbid, and always keep an eye on her! The best commercial dog food is Nutro Ultra holistic formula, but the absolute best food you can possibly feed a German Shepherd Dog is raw. Try The Honest Kitchen raw base called Embark. That is what I have my GSD pup on and it is great.

I had a German Shepherd pup that used to do the same thing. I was told it was a vitamin deficiency. Talk to another vet. Keep doing what you're doing by following her around and making sure she doesn't get to it before you do. Reward her with a treat of some kind when she obeys. It may take a while, but German Shepherds are extremely intelligent and she will hopefully come around to doing things your way. If all else fails, send her to obedience school.

If your pet is not being fed a quality dog food, increase the quality and quantity of the dog food you feed your dog. Store-bought foods are not digested as fully, and food that passes through the digestive system only to remain in the feces may actually make the stool taste appealing. For pets already on a high quality food, divide the daily intake into several smaller meals.
You can make stool taste repulsive to dogs using a vegetable-based chewable tablet like Dis-Taste, or by sprinkling some For-Bid over his food bowl.
Keep your yard clean and feces free.
Keep your dog active, since some dogs have been known to eat droppings as a negative behavior associated with boredom. Give them stimulating toys and interact with them on a daily basis.

THis is not an easy problem to deal with, i've had it happen also. You'll just need to keep on her and let her know that its wrong. It might be that because she was the runt she does it. Hard to say. Just keep on her and she'll eventually stop. I hope she's had a parvo shot so she don't get sick. Good Luck

its called Solid gold, and its very inexpensive... you give him this dosage and if he tries to eat his own poo he will be in for a nasty bitter surprise then keep giving him this dosage every single day.. and get the Glutamic Acid ( that what makes his poo taste bad to him ) in his system, he will eventually be too digusted himself to eat it... this definatly weined my dog from eating his own poo, as far as the cat box went, we just gave the cat to my mawmaw, because I thought it was gross how i never had to clean it cause my pooch needed a mid night snack...

It is normal at that age for her to eat her own or an other animal's poop.My dog is a German Sheperd/Collie mix and he did the same thing until he was one ,but don't discouraged just give her TLC.

Dogs are very clean animals and that's their way of keeping house. Is this inside or outside the house? If it's inside you need to take him out more frequently. If it's outside, then try the spay folks have mentioned.

Coprophagia (poo eating) is actually pretty normal behavior. It can be stopped. There are several product on the market that make poo 'taste bad'..If Forbid isn't doing the job, try another formula.
