I have had a number of feral, abandoned, etc. kittens. After she eats, carry her over to the catbox and move her front legs as if she was digging. That may give her the idea. Also, if she poops somewhere else put the poops in the litter box and show them to her. Cats instinctively want to go where they can bury their poops. Like in your kid's sandbox, or the flower bed outside. The vet may have some other ideas.

Although most cats do it on their own, with a little coaxing from you....some miss the mark....when your kitten has an accident, put it in the litter box right away. If your cat still doesn't get it, you might try exposing them to an older (and of course, gentle!) cat and leaving them together for a little while (supervised!). We did this with a kitten of ours that just wasn't catching on and it seemed to work wonders.

One thing to be aware of -- if you should get your kitten declawed - don't do it too early in their life, or they will not use the litter box. After surgery, their paws are very tender, of course, and when they scratch in the litter, it hurts, so they quit using the litter box - - forever.

most cats will automatically know. but if not, follow her around and pick up any poop she makes. put it in the litter box and let her sniff it. but until she gets the whole process down, dont let her have full run of your house. just leave her in a kitchen or bathroom when youre not home. and play with her and watch her carefully when you are. but like i said its like a 6th sense for cats to use a litter box, its not hard to train them.

All I did was put him in a filled litter box, took his front paw (right or left doesn't matter) in my hand and showed him what to do and he picked it up and took care of the rest by himself. So that he/she knows it was right, give a treat to reward and pet and they will never do their business anywhere else.

i just took her to the box when she was first brought home( i caught her pooping on my rug) and put her feet inthe litter and after that she just knew thats where she goes, cats are pretty smart when it comes to potty training, unlike dogs which take a while :) get her kitty milk so she does not die from being weaned from mother too soon.

its best to keep a close watch over her for a few days. wait for her to go to the bathroom and then pick her up and place her in the box. do this regularly and eventually she'll learn where to go. it also helps to not put the box in a hard to find spot like the bathroom at first.
