judges by your religious affiliation and not by your deeds? That kind of god seems unkind and overly judgemental. That is why I as an Atheist see no real incentive to join any religion. The only one that comes close to judgement by character is Buddhism.

So anyways, to the real question, why would you want to spend your time in heaven with a god like that?

I don't understand it either. And the worst of it is that most of the people that have answered this question that just because an athiest has knowledge of various religions doesn't mean they're looking to join one.

Is there really something wrong with gathering knowledge before deciding that you are an athiest. It's called informed decision making. And I have the same tendency to want to answer these questions b/c all the answers I get from religious people either ASSUME the presence of god or assume that i haven't ever given religion a chance.

I'm sorry I can't answer your question, but I'll keep looking for someone that can give me a real explanation of their faith rather than citing dogma and scripture at me.

Man's heart turned away from God when Adam and Eve sinned. It is for that reason that, in order to "reunite" with God, a sacrifice had to be offered in the Old Testament. In the New Testament, Jesus came to be the ultimate, all-inclusive sarcrifice. You can do good deeds and still reject the gift of salvation. If someone you loved very much abused, rejected and then brutally murdered your only son, would you not expect them to ask your forgiveness in order to be reconciled to you? Religion has nothing to do with it..there are all kinds of religions, but a personal relationship with a JUST and INFINITE God is quite different. You will never know true peace, comfort and love without knowing Him. I've experienced many miracles knowing God. Buddhism, nor any other religion offers the presence of an Almighty God that truly answers prayer. He is ALIVE....all other gods are dead and buried somewhere.

I think truth is truth, no matter what God you believe or if you don't believe in one at all. If you look for honest meaning you can and will find it in any number of places.

Also, I think it is important to remember that religion is what PEOPLE make of it. Therefor, the things you dislike about religion are probably the flaws human beings have imposed on the institutions and that sort of thing. I think it is a good idea to check out various religions, you can learn a lot from them all. I don't think religion or God is inherently judgmental, that's just human vice shinning through...

Even the most successful human being will end up as a rotting corpse someday.

The only antitidote to death is Jesus Christ.

Take your pick ... 60, 70, or 80 years of life and then, nothing ... or an eternity in which to come to truly appreciate your creator, and share in all that he has and all that he is.

Both options cost exactly the same.

Your problem is you completely gave up on God only because of the beliefs of certain organized religions. I didn't, I disagree with it all and have my own opinion of God in my head. He's kind and accepting, the opposite of what you said, he only judges a person by their deeds and actions....you seem to be brainwashed into a strict way of thinking.

exactly,so who told you that the God and Master of the worlds is a god that only loves a people of a certain religion ?the Witnesses must have told you that. if you have common sense you think a person who does good in this world and keeps Gods commandments the best they can will be hated by God b/c they weren't a follower of a man made religion ?I don't think so.

Judgement doesn't come till the 1000 year reign of Christ is over. Then you are judged by your acts during those 1000 years, because during that time, there is no ignorance of truth, because the truth is visable, Christ. Sooo, if by then you still refuse to accept Christ, even after seeing Him, then God will judge you.

Yes I know, all thumbs down, ......(whoosh)

I don't personally. I have yet to completely do away with my affiliation with the Catholic church, but more and more I'm finding it absolutely ridiculous to believe in divine creation at all.

When I was young and impressionable, it was the greatest explanation. But now, if there IS a God, and He allows innocent children to be murdered at school AND Steve Irwin to die, why would I want him to accept ME? What would that say about my character?

The bizarre part is that there are so MANY exclusive God clubs, and they all have different rules! And they're ALL the only "true" one.

Some people seem to think it's more important THAT you believe than WHAT you believe.

" there are many mansions in MY FATHER'S house. " seems to say the answer best suited here. there are many different ways to get to ones destination. one can walk, run, ride a bike, a motorcycle, take a car, a train, a plane, etc. and still arrive at the destination. GOD is to big to be in only one place.
