It would probably be better for the dog to be kept in one area, or even sleeping while you are sleeping. If you let the dog roam around the house all night, they might get bored and chew up something they aren't supposed to chew. Also the dog should be potty trained, or else you'll end up with poop and pee all over. I'd say you should keep the dog in the crate at night.

Plus, I'm sure you dont' want your dog to die from chewing an electrical cord, or eating something she isn't supposed to, right?

I do not allow dogs to have full reign of the house until they are COMPLETELY potty trained. Additionally, they are allowed to roam the entire house, including my son's room. This is because my dogs are all security/protection dogs and it's useless training unless they are allowed in ALL AREAS of the house. For most normal house dogs, quartering them off to specific areas is fine. Crating is best, however, for most house dogs because they are not fully TRAINED. This means that they can get into things they are not supposed to and this can threaten their very life.

Double check with an animal behaviorist but I believe the best thing to do with any dog is crate training for life. There are alot of benefits to this some obvious but one thing to keep in mind is when your dog is an old pet, he/she may develope health problems that can lead to loss of bodily control and you certainly don't want an old friend used to sleeping in your bed or on your carpet if this happens. It's also a great tool to use if you plan to have company that may or may not include alot of children. Dogs can sometimes get over excited about company and could become a little difficult to handle. Good luck!

No, not if she is not potty trained--- this will actually undo all the work you do during the day. You need to keep her contained in an area or crated...she should not be roaming the house until she can hold it and until she wont chew up your stuff.

No, a dog that is not fully potty trained needs to remain crated until it's fully potty trained.

Depends on what kind of dog u have... A dog will roam around the house to check up on members of the family.. Dogs are like watch dogs... they want to guard and make sure each person is suppose to be where they are suppose to be. My Dog does this..

I have a new puppy as well. However i do not reccomend that you let it wander the house. it's gonna start pissing and pooping all over if it's not trained and then you're going to have that smell and it will keep doing it. I would kennel train it, atleast that's worked the best for me. Good luck to you!
