Do you think that they are modern day Demon Possession, people are just not being self-controlled, or that people have true sickness? Maybe it's a balance of all three sometimes? Would love to hear your thoughts on this.

All I know is I once was bound, oppressed, and plagued by mental illness, and now I am free - thanks to the faithfulness of my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!

I can remember standing by my car at the gas station and remembering how, before I knew Him, sometimes even the smallest tasks, such as putting gas in the car, were terrifying and overwhelming. Tears of gratitude began to run down my face as I realized how good it was to be free.

Every once in a while it's good to stop and remember. I can celebrate the mundane because there was a time when I was too debilitated to even participate in the mundane.

Whether it's demonic, or chemical, or a combination of these and something else I cannot say. Whatever it is I'm just grateful it's no longer a part of my life.

Most mental illnesses that get to the point where it impairs functioning stems from either a biological cause, like a chemical imbalance, or stems from an anxiety origin. Please note, I say most.I've almost got a Master's degree in the subject, and you still can't throw a generalization on ALL mental illnesses. You do raise a good point regarding the impulse control, however. Some disorders are related to that, and though mental health treatment has become de-stigmatized to some degree, there are those who want a label as a cop out, i.e. "Oh, I have A, so I can't do B"

The physiological causes are not well known for all mental illnesses. And many, though certainly not all, of the solutions are mere band-aids to help the patient (and the family) live more normal lives. Drugs are also used in mental hospitals almost like crowd control....very heart-breaking to see.

Also I believe demon possession and (more commonly) demon oppression and influence are still with us today.

Hoping the best for you...

The physiological causes are well known so they're not demon possession. In fact demon possession was the name given by those in the past to sufferers from mental disorders that had no know cause. I suffer from mental illness because that is what clinical depression is and I have no feeling of shame or stigma in admitting it. Mental illness is so terrible precisely because sufferers are often treated like social pariahs and that just worsens their feelings of isolation. It's caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain just as diabetes is caused by a chemical imbalance in the pancreas.

Mental ilness is an environmental/genetic factor. The polution and poisons we create by living on this earth cause genetic mutations that are passed down and progressively get worse. Unless you believe that demonic possessions also get passed down in a family. . . There is so much science does not understand about why or how the brain works so they really have no clue as to how environmental polutants affect a persons mental state.

We live in a fallen world and because of that there is all sorts of illnesses out there. Sad to say that Mental Illness is one of them. My personal beliefs is that God has compassion on those who don't have the ability to properly understand the message from Jesus Christ and that therefore they fall underneath the age of accountability issue.

Also I believe when they get to heaven they will have a new body and a new mind, I also know that for some people with mental issues if you give yourself a chance to know them some of them can be the most blessed people you have ever met in your life. Sad to say that isn't always the case. Pray for those whose minds are bound by illness.

Yes there is such thing as Demon Possession. It was when Christ walked the earth in the form of a man, and it is true now also. But remember this, God has said, "touch not mine annointed" A Christian has nothing to fear because Christ has told us that " I have gave you all power and authority"
(over Satan) ( by His death and ressurection from the grave, which is another name for Satan) (death)

Mental illness can be caused by childhood trauma, by adult trauma, and some is plain ole chemical imbalances and/or genetic problems. It's not demons, though you gotta wonder about people who murder little Amish girls being truly human.

True mental illnesses are chemical imbalances or essentially bad programming resulting from traumatic experiences.
