There's no way you can "reason" with a child of 2 1/2, because their cognitive development is too immature .
You can try to explain that the unwanted behavior is something "mommy doesn't like", or "you could hurt yourself", or "that's naughty, and you can't do that".
Children need to make mistakes in order to learn what is acceptable behavior and what is not, and a 2 1/2 year old is constantly testing the boundaries. That is just what they do to make sense of their world, and it is expected at that stage of development.

I accept as true with everybody however can upload one more. I recognize anyone who stated she didn't desire kids however received pregnant so had the youngster besides (now youngster). Her reasoning used to be she did not desire to get to her forty's and desire that she had. Luckily they've a well household courting and anything that began with going via the motions parenting has constructed right into a well courting. She could also be selected a reputation that might seem well on headed paper - figuring out what her baby might develop as much as be (solicitor, surgeon and many others) which fills me with horror - if the baby doesnt fulfil those prophesies, what occurs? So a 'Just in case' youngster.

He just needs to see the consequence of his actions. For example if he hits you be sure to make a big deal of it hurting "OW That HURT!" and put him in time-out. When the time-out is over (2 min) just say, "NO hitting, hitting hurts" and let him go on his merry way. Eventually he will see that hitting hurts and it's not a good way to get attention.
And for all the people saying that a two year old cannot be reasoned with: they may not understand right away but consistancy and repetition is how they learn right from wrong...you can't just set them in a time-out without saying anything to them. That would be like a police officer arresting you but not telling you why. 2 year olds may be not have the best verbal skills or attention spans but they ARE capable of reading emotions and when told what that emotion is called (sad, hurt, happy) they will learn to put two and two together.

You cannot reason with a 2 1/2 year old child! They just do not understand and are still in the "it's all about me" stage of life. I have an 11 year old and half the time cannot reason with him!

Don't reason with him. You will loose. He is a child. Tell him what he did wrong and that that is not acceptable behavior and will not be tolerated. If he does it again punish him. Just remember he is 2 1/2 so make the punishment age appropriate.

There's no such thing as "reasoning" with a 2 1/2 year old. What you can do is explain to him what he did and why it's wrong..and then expect him to do it over and over and over again. Each time you'll have to explain....and eventually, as he matures and gets his id under more control, he'll avoid the "mistakes."

You should tell him that what he is doing is wrong and explain why. And tell him that if he does it again he will be punished....like, taking something away from him for a little bit, stand him in the corner...etc.
