I would pick a name that is significant to you such as your favorite city, favorite sports team mascot or anything else that has meaning to you.
Or, if your cat has a big personality like mine does, try to find something that fits that personality. Like maybe he is a big lover boy - you could name him Romeo.
A lot of times the best place to find a name you like is in baby name books or websites.
Many people name their cat something that has to do with its coloring. I don't particularly care for this because it is often unoriginal, but hey, it's YOUR cat.

I think it was meant to be that this cat is call Cat. You have used the name for 4 years now and it seems to be working. Why start calling the cat something else and it might just get confused. Live with and love the name that destiny has chosen.

Some people do that. I can tell you that both of my cats are named, but we hardly ever use the names themselves. We say, "kitty, kitty" a lot, obviously, and I call my male nicknames like "tubby" and "tons of fun", lol.

Cats don't HAVE to have names....they don't really care either way as long you're feeding them. But what does the cat's vet records say? I really hope she's BEEN to a vet at some point in the past 4 years? "Cat" is a perfectly acceptable way to refer to her. Some people choose it. I know a girl whose male cat is named "Kitty No Name"....hehe.

name it depending on the type of cat.
my dog is a miniature schnauzer, (german breed)
so we gave her a german name- Schatzi

if you dont know where it originated, then name it by it's personality, or what you think of it.
if it's playful, name it something like "Spunky"
