I'm sorry, my friend, but "helping others" won't cut it. Jesus said that no man (or woman) can come to the Father but by Him. We are saved by grace, through faith. It is impossible to earn salvation by your own effort, not in a million years! Besides, if your'e such a staunch atheist, why do you ask? You wouldn't be happy in Heaven anyway. Not in the the presence of a God that doesn't exist! So the short answer is yes, you will. That makes me sad for you.

The answer is yes, but I must qualify that by defining "hell". There is no such place as a burning pit of fire where wayward souls are tortured for all eternity. God is not cruel. "Hell" is simply the concept of being absent from the presence of God. If we do not choose the path of salvation, for which the only requirement is even the tiniest flicker of faith in God, he acknowledges our choice of non-survival by causing us to cease existing. That which makes us an individual, self-aware person is annihilated.
I suspect that a person who devotes his life to doing good would have that tiny flicker of faith, though perhaps subconsciously, and so will survive to the next world even if it is on a probationary basis.

Yes,
helping the needy is a wonderful work.
But we must obey all Gods will.
If you are a staunch atheist then you must not even believe in heaven or hell.
So why the question?

If you say your an atheist then you believe that there is NOTHING after death. You believe that you have no soul. So why are you worried your going to go to hell. You have no soul to worry about according to your religion. I think your confused and should pick a religion you know more about.

Yes, unfortunately, if you hold to your current belief. Good works do not atone for sin. You help others but are not without sin. Without the pure sacrifice of the Blood of the Lamb for atonement of sin, how, exactly, do you intend to gain the presence of Righteous, Holy God. It cannot be done on ones own strength, regardless of how good that strength is. God would not be righteous if He sat arbitrarily determining who had done enough good. Life is in the blood and the Sacrifice must be pure. I'm afraid we just don't fit the bill.

Of course, everyone does when they die, even Christ did. Once there, he could do nothing until his resurrection, not even visit the fallen angels to make God's Declaration of Judgment. Of course, there are no words in the oldest scrolls that translates as hell or hell fire, just the grave.

well according to christians...and the "bible", which someone states in the answers, if you don't believe in their god then you're screwed... lets do the math, shall we? hmmm 2.1 billion christians (some catholics believe that only catholics go to heaven) and there are 6.4 billion people in the world as of 2005... that's alot of people going to hell!
some buddhists believe in hell, and by their standards you could become someone close to reaching nirvana, Definitely not hell!

if you dont believe that you will get hurt jumping off a 50 story building-many will tell you you wont-so you help others that is wonderfull-should Jesus who came from heaven -i as a jew believe it cause its true-and was spit on and lived a perfect life not one sin-to die for even one of your lies-that would in itself make you a sinner in need of the saviors salvation-our sins is why he had to go to the cross-
you wont really go to hell-Jesus maybe was lying-and when you hit the ground after a 50 floor drop-maybe you wont get hurt either-why listen to Jesus when people can advise you to reject the joy of salvation and heaven-and get a self glorified life that rejects the creator of the stars-oh yes they were there accidently and the 50th floor dropped is a pillow of fun? well you might be right-
Jesus is my savior and best friend-he says he loves you unconditionally and knocks to come into your heart-its your choice

Yes! Because of your ingratitude to your Creator.
I'll give you a question for you to contemplate on.
Say you have $5million and you have five children. But one of them defies you and continues to ignore you and quarrel with you, inspite that you nurtured him or her and gave him or her everything, while growing up and building their own careers or profession. Aren't you being like your ungrateful child?
They are now on their own, and it so happens this child of your still shun you for things or reasons you do not understand. And still bitter at you and swears he or she does not owe you anything.
Say you are about to die, and you are now going to leave your will, and you know very well, he or she will not accept any bequeath you have for him or her. Are you still going to treat him or her the same way like your four obedient and grateful children, or disown him or her?
Now apply this to yourself and God.
I know that you know sooner or later, one way or the other all of us are going to die, whether we like it or not.
What if a God truly exists, and all the while up to the last minute of your life you have shunned Him and continue to be ungrateful and does not accept Him?
I assure you, I think God will be kinder to a soul that is a pagan, for at least he or she believes in gods, while you believe in yourself only, when you cannot even control your own heartbeat at your own will.

To tell you the truth none of us here can tell you where you are going to go, atheist or not. I can tell you that atheist do things for the good of others just like Christians. They do things good for themselves, just like Christians. But the true follower of any any faith do things for the good of their God, and that is where it differs. God is the forefront of the good things done by those who believe, but their is only oneself to look at when there is nothing to believe in.
God bless always, see you in Heaven, but to believe in Heaven or Hell is to believe there is something greater than you.
