There's a little book that you can buy at like CVS or something, and you take a stencil out of the book and tape it on the pumpkin and then they give you a black marker to trace it onto the pumpkin, and then they have this little safety knife that isn't sharp or anything...So why wouldn't you let your kids carve pumpkins for halloween..

we've not carved a pumpkin for Halloween when you consider that earlier we had youthful ones. This 12 months, tomorrow evening, we are carving ours. My oldest is 5, then 4, then 2, then 10 months. the ten-month previous is totally no longer up for it, she'll already be in mattress. both-12 months-previous would also be down, have not determined yet on that.

You did not say how old your kids are, but sure, why not. They even have pumpkin carving kits for kids with this special knife that they can not cut themselves with (it is serated but with no sharp bits but still goes through the pumpkin easily). I actually am a big kid at heart and have been carving pumpkins my whole life and use the kids knife myself.

We normally paint the faces on the pumpkins, then after the holiday I will remove the seeds and roast it.
Yes, Halloween is considered to be the devils day but my family celebrates the Lord with positive, and or angelic costumes. We normally participate in a local churches Hallelujah night, or have a costume party...we have a blessed time!!!!!!!!!

It depends on the age of the kids!!
If they are very young I would say have them paint the faces on the pumpkins instead.
If they are old enough to really do it themselves, get one of those kits with the safety knives.
You will still have to clean out the seeds and thin the sides out for them.
Happy Halloween!!

My children, grandchildren, and I all carve pumpkins at Halloween. We all do it together and make a great big mess. We have a ball. For us it is a great family activity.

My daughter is only 2, so she won't be carving this year. I actually carve at least 2 a year myself. Next year I will carve one and let my daughter paint the other.

We go to the pumpkin patch and carve them. Well, we do, then my kids play in the guts!
Absolutely!! It's a good experience that I will remember forever, even from when I was a kid.

I do not think that it is honoring to God since it is a pagan ritual...
The origin of Halloween dates back 2000 years ago to the Celtic celebration of the dead. A Celtic festival was held on November 1, the first day of the celtic New Year, honoring the Samhain, the Lord of the Dead. Celtic ritual believed that the souls of the dead returned on the evening before November 1.
The first lighted fruit was really carved out of gourds and turnips. European custom also included carving scary faces into the gourds and placing embers inside to light them. This was believed to ward of evil spirits, especially spirits who roamed the streets and countryside during All Hallows Eve.
