It sounds a lot like Agoraphobia.

Agoraphobia is a form of anxiety disorder. Sufferers of agoraphobia do not fear crowded situations, which is a common misunderstanding of this disorder. Agoraphobia is the fear of having a panic attack in general in any place whether it be the grocer, at work or in the privacy of your own home. Social anxiety disorder is what people mean when they generally say "agoraphobia".

I think alot of people struggle with this issue, it is called low self easteem, i would suggest you start doing affirmations to change the thoughts & feedback you are giving youself, maybe make up some colourful affirmations to put up around your house (mirror is a good place) saying things like "i enjoy being around people" i see myself as being equal to everyone else" "my opinion matters" "i love myself just the way i am" "i am a confident person" even if u dont believe these things yet, having them on the wall will help you to read them which will re-program your thoughts, there is also a wonderful book called "feel the fear & do it anyway" have a read!

I am the same way. It wasn't until I start going places with my best friend and Fiance. These two people in my life are the most outgoing people ever. I went to races with them and lounges. I was quite at first but slow started getting used to crowds. As long as they were with me I felt like I at least knew one person. New people I haven't found out how to stop that fear. I stay at a job that I hate because I am to nervous to start with a new staff. And its normal, not everyone wants to be around a lot of people.

Try small groups @ first....but lots of people doesn't like large crowds...they can be overwhelming @ times.... but any fear must be faced first before you can get over them...try anlyzing...why you fear large groups or new people? something may have happened to you that caused this fear?

It sounds like social anxiety.
You could try being around small groups of people and gradually working your way up to more people 1 at a time, otherwise just stick with what you are comfortable with.

I am the same way. You might have an anxiety disorder. This is what I do. I hang out with one friend and let the friend introduce you with new people. This way you will feel safe because you have your friend. Just being around alot of people does not mean that you have to talk to them.

I had that problem then I started smoking pot, thinking that would help, well I do not recommend you try that route, it really made me more PARANOID, and you know ...whatever.
It is normal, I choose to do a lot of solo stuff, CYCLING was a favorite hobby of mine, and I am a ROCKHOUND, going to the outdoors and searching for AGATES, CRYSTALS,GEODES, and various other treasures is a pretty good solo hobby.
I just do not undermine any trees or anything so I am not the MISSING ROCKHOUND!!!lol.

Oh as far as your problem and how to resolve it, I do not know if there is any ammount of counseling or therapy for it.
but who knows, maybe.
Goodluck with it, let me know if you find something that truly helps...

I have this fear too. And I know that no one is out to get me. So it just doesn't make sense, does it? While sitting in church my hands will sweat. And I know I have flunked some job interviews because of it. My only solution has been to make myself be around people.

just whenever you enter a crowded room, just breath deeply. if you touch somethin like the wall, or a table you will feel better. Little by little you'll overcome this
