I'm just wondering how many creationist christians have read anything other than what is supported by their church. It seems that most athiest have read at least some of the bible and listen religious peoples points of view. It seems only fitting that christians would want to find out why we no longer believe. What harm could information do to your faith?

I have read extensively about other religions. I have read more than average about the broad field of science. Information does no harm to my faith.

I was a biology major both in high school and college.

As an empiricist I refused to accept the concepts of a six day creation and a young earth because I was well steeped in evolution theory.

I was born from above before graduation, but refused to be intellectually dishonest, so I wouldn't accept the Bible when it contradicted what I thought I knew to be sound scientifically.

Then I attended a debate. Two evolutionists from Cal State Fullerton's biology department debated Henry Morris and Duane T. Gish.

The creationists made it clear that the rules of the debate would not allow arguments of faith to be introduced at any point. The evolutionists agreed wholeheartedly. Then the debate began.

The creationists had very plausible explanations for every shred of contradicting "evidence" the evolutionists advanced, but the evolutionists continually reverted to arguments of faith.

Yes, it was the EVOLUTIONISTS that rely on faith. Unless you accept by blind belief that the earth is old . . . that dinosaurs lived millions of years ago . . . that the big bang started everything . . . that the geologic column actually exists . . . etc. etc. etc., then there is no way you can support these concepts from the actual factual evidence.

The Bible is God's Word, and it supports a more plausible explanation of origins than evolution theory.

I remain intellectually honest, having relinquished my evolutionary leanings when the evidence was scrutinized and creation was supported by it.

Their is the belief that the Christian Church as a whole does not believe in evolution, well let me be the first to rip your curtain of ignorance open, Catholicism does not believe that evolution did not happen. It is clearly stated, yes even in doctrine, that the Church is not to go against anything that can be scientifically proven, which by the way evolution is still a theory. I think they learned with Galileo many years ago. You can believe in something a scientist says is true but not something God has placed in your heart as truth.
Creationism though states that we as humans evolved from apes, and became this intelligent on our own. If that were the case, why only us? Why not some sort of marine life as well, or some sort of bird as well? We believe that at some point in evolution God interceded, Genesis, look up the meaning, and evolution took a different path with us, the image of God in the aspect of free will and ability to be rational.
May God continue to illuminate your mind.

Absolutely no harm at all, in fact Christians do read about other faiths. I have studied all faiths as well as atheism which I personally consider a poor untenable substitute religion by itself which requires more faith than I can offer. The whole point is to follow God not man. I might as well follow myself if only men like Buddha, Mohammad were around. But I don't. I follow Jesus Christ Lord and God who talks of things from above, not of the earth that I can see for myself. The religion question would make little sense if there was no adversary and therefore no need for salvation. However there is an adversary whose actions are clearly in this world against humanity, against you and me and God is the only one who can lead us away from him and towards eternity.

You do realize that many Christians weren't born Chrisitan don't you? I used to be an atheist. Our church is made up of many people that didn't grow up in a church setting. I looked into many different religions prior to finding the best one - satanism, wicca, budhism, none of them did anything to make my life better. Any "benefits" were extremely fleeting. Once you find the one true God, there's no reason to keep looking. That's like getting married and still dating. Are you sure you found the right woman? You haven't dated them all. Once your life is changed in a miraculous way, it would be incredibly ignorant to ignore the one that did the changing.

Jesus saved me and God loves us all.

No harm at all. I actually know more about other religions now that I belong to the Lord Jesus Christ than I did before - and I'd looked as thoroughly as I knew how to into quite a lot of other religions before giving my life to Jesus as well.

In fact, the more I learn about other religions the more grateful I become for the grace and mercy of God that has been brought to light through Jesus Christ my Lord!
