Gravy. That's the difference.
And people will put just about anything in a meatloaf whereas Salisbury steak is pretty much meat and gravy.

Salisbury steak is ground beef shaped to resemble a steak and usually served in brown sauce. According to the Oxford English Dictionary, Salisbury steak was invented by an American physician, Dr. J. H. Salisbury (1823-1905) and named for him. As a Salisbury steak is a fancy hamburger. Does not have the egg, oatmeal, and other ingredients that are mixed into a meatloaf.

I am sure salisbury steak do not have egg in it and all the other ingredients for meatloaf.

As far as I know. Salsbury steak is cubed steak cooked in a gravy sauce. I make it all the time and the longer it cooks the better, and it is SOOOO much better that meatloaf which is just made with hamburger.
