The elastics is what holds the teeth together besides the medal wire under it. Every time you go to the orth. they will tighten the elastics bringing your teeth more and more together to make your smile better :)!!!!!!!!!

They provide extra 'pull' in one direction or another. The brackets and wires move the teeth into a straight arrangement and pull them back into the mouth, but elastics are used if the top/bottom alignment is off from left to right or front to back.

You'd have thought there was something less barbaric by now!

(Braces: had them for 3 years and 5 days exactly)

Elastic bands aren't used all the time just occasionally and they're used to pull the teeth together in ways that braces can't
for example they can line up teeth better than braces can
Thats why you have to wear them to speed up the process essentially

The elastics are what keeps the wire on the braces. They also pull your teeth in the direction that your teeth are supposed to go. They also make your teeth look better.

The elastic pulls the teeth together, or apart, and the little bands are to keep the wire on the brackets.

elastics on the stainless brackets are to keep the arch wire in place and to keep it taught. The track elactics are used to close spaces and the elastics that hoop from top brackets to the bottom are to correct your bite.........Hope that answers you r question..

They hold the archwire on, speed up the process, and pull your teeth in ways the archwire can't (closing gaps, aligning top and bottom teeth, etc.)
