No youre not crazy MANY women want something other than a diamond for their engagement ring (just look at all the answers here that say your smart!). MANY women get other gemstones instead (I personally got a .5 carat PURE aquamarine, his birthstone, with 2 very small garnet chips to either side, my birthstone.... we designed it together and it was MUCH cheaper than a diamond and I liked it better)
Other women have decided to forgo engagement rings entirely (and not always because of costs, sometimes just because the wedding ring is enough for their tastes)
Do not let anyone else tell you what to wear.... it is YOUR hand that it will go on and YOU will have to wear it for the rest of your life. Tell him if you dont like it you wont wear it, he would like you to wear his ring wouldnt he?
Good Luck

I am with you on this! Tell him you can upgrade to a real diamond for your 5 yr anniversary. OR skip the engagement ring and just wear plain matching bands after you are married.
Remind him, any ring can be an engagement ring.. not just large flashy diamonds. zircon is fine if it is the ring you like. Shouldn't it be a ring YOU LIKE?

Men feel that it's tradition to give a woman a diamond for engagement, I convinced my hubby to let me buy a ring that I like( the most expensive out of the 4 rings was his wedding -$99 for a band with a small diamond in it, the cheapest was my wedding-$20 but it was a sterling silver rose wit tiny cz in the bud)
How I got mine was i told him that if i was to have a diamond he would get a diamond (my engagement ring has 2 hearts with 4 cz stones around them) and he agreed

ummm....not really. It is a HUGE waste of money if you really think about it. But you don't have to settle for metals either. A gold band isnt that expensive, and you could get a cool "real" stone other than diamond, like your birthstone or his, or something you just may really like. For some reason guys think that girls run around showing off their rings to a million people and telling them exactly how much it costs. He should be SO HAPPY that he found somebody who is smart and doesnt want to waste money on something like that.....an even better idea, go to an antique store and get a really cool old ring that has a story to it....and congrats!!!

No- I dont want one either- in fact mine is the same type that you want. It was less expensive and I love it! He wanted to give me a true diamond but I explained to him that wasnt necessary because this is what i wanted. We are putting the saved money towards the wedding and when we get to our 5th year anniversary- or even tenth- thats when I will have my diamond. There reall isnt no point to argue about it. A zircon ring looks just as real as the rest unless you get it a stunning 4 or 5 caret! I say stick to what you want and enjoy!
Tell him after you get your houses and are firmly established then you will want something different (or not)

I completely agree with you, because I'm in the same kinda situation...cuz my bf and I have been looking at engagement rings, and they are soooo expensive...but he's like that doesn't matter I just want you to have the ring you want...and don't worry bout the cost...but I'm like you I don't think I want a diamond yet...in a couple of years maybe when we get married or for our 5 yr anniversary...but not first I think...good luck and Congrats on the marriage

You're not crazy.. you're a humble woman, and i admire that. I told my boyfriend that I don't want any diamond ring or jewelry for the simple fact of the suffering people went through to dig it up... I'm sure you're husband is surprised by that because diamonds are a woman's best friend. I agree one should invest money on a marriage and home than on a wedding ring or a wedding.. congratulations...

In this particular instance I agree with him. An engagement ring should be real, not fake. You're having a real wedding, you should have a real ring. It doesn't have to cost a fortune, it also doesn't have to be a diamond. My engagement ring is a purple sapphire and it's gorgeous. I guess if you really want a CZ go for it; I would rather have no ring than a fake ring.

No your not crazy and who would know the ring is a Zircon. If he is very insistent why not a different stone maybe a Sapphire or another precious stone.

What you need to do is agree to never discuss this with anyone... ever!!! That way he has no reason to be embarrassed that the diamond isn't real. As a soon to be married couple, this will be your little secret. Its way better to put the money towards a home. Its also the wiser thing to do. Good Luck
