We live in Tennessee, so the weather is still nice. I have two daughters, the oldest turns 4 at the end of the month and one that is almost 21 months. They LOVE to play outside. I usually use Avon skin-so-soft bug guard plus. The blue kind that disappears. It is sunscreen plus bug repellent. But the past week they have been ate up by mosquitoes. Is there anything else that would work better?
I have used the disappearing stuff all summer, and it has worked , but now it isn't! Help, my kids look like they have chicken pox!

We live up here in Maine where thankfully the bugs have died off for the most part. During the summer they swarm though and my 5 yr-old son is allergic to the bites. What I do is get the "Off - family scent" and spray it on his clothes and shoes and pat a little on top of his head in his hair. It seems to work and doesn't bother his skin.
I wish you the best of luck and hope your little girls' bites heal quickly. We use hydrocortizone to get rid of the itch of the bites.

The best thing to do to avoid putting stuff on them with higher concentrations of deet is to get a pest control/lawn service to spray for mosquitoes. We have a business in Michigan and most summer contracts include three sprayings. I have 4 acres with one acre of woods etc. and I never put repellant on the boys unless we are somewhere else!!
Lamps, candles, zappers are usually a waste of money. I wouldn't want to use deet daily either.
Also get rid of any standing water....that is where they will breed. If the environment is inhabitable it will make you life easier. They like damp wood chips and heavy shrubery. The hotter and dryer the summer becomes the less you will see of them. There are also dunks for ponds if you have them on your property that make breeding in hospitable.
I would be more proactive then on the defensive!!

Skin so soft has never worked for me, in fact it just seems to attract the bugs even more. I guess it just doesn't work well with my body chemistry. I have very sensitive skin and the bugs have always seemed to be attracted to me. I know a lot of people don't like to use the bug sprays that contain deet, but it is the only thing that has worked for me. I know people think it is not safe for younger children, but its got to be safer than West Nile Virus, or Malaria.

airborne dirt and mud mites are microscopic, no longer seen with the bare eye and are not bugs. they're Arachnids in a similar group because of the fact the spiders, scorpions, ticks and have 8 legs, no longer 6. there are a number of stuff that allergists recommend to help decrease airborne dirt and mud mite inhabitants and their feces in a house of a delicate man or woman. overlaying mattress with a plastic mattress pad and repacing pillows in many situations help some. you're able to purchase particular pillow covers too. Even at WalMart. If a pillow is previous, by using quantity it is frequently airborne dirt and mud mites. removing carpets and changing floor coverings with laminate or tile help too. Vacuuming on a daily basis with remarkable hepa clear out vacuum facilitates too. air purifier technologies is geting plenty better. There are some expensive ones that are incredible, perhaps $seven-hundred, yet they paintings super. those with extreme respriation problems, it is extremely effective.

Try using regular skin so soft, right after they get out of the bath before drying off. And when you are ready to go outside. Spray them down everywhere. Our troops have a contract with Avon for it and it works great for them.

I live in TN also. We haven't had many mosquitos this summer. But, I would reccommend using the Lamps that hang up outside. They work great!

usually at places like walmart look for something with DEET in it you can spray it on there clothes to keep them from the covered parts to. also because yes it is nice but still cooler out making them more saseptible to breed and servive longer just keep your kids in after 5 or at least away from pools, ponds, creeks, pretty much any body of water where skeeters breed.

Maybe there are mosquitos inside the house that are biting them after the repellent wears off.
