Some dog breeds are very territorial and there is nothing you can do to stop them from barking at people who are in their realm of responsibility. It's genetic and they can't stop it, it's like you trying to stop your eyes from being a certain colour. The dog figures it is doing it's job to alert you that someone is coming close. Look at the bright side, no one will ever be able to sneak up on your house. My dogs have a different bark when people actually come to the house rather than just pass by it. I know when there is someone at my door.

Hi I had the same problem with my liitle pup.. hes a rescue pup so not too sure of his breed... just labelled cross!! Anyway it sounds like she is having fun with all the attention she is getting from you when she barks. She is seeing the reaction she gets from you as a positive thing so is doing it more!! Reverse psycology with these little treasures, i have discovered. I find that if I distract my boy (either turn the other way without saying a word) or throw a ball in the opposite direction(if on the beach), then he forgets about the barking and begins to play.
I used to tell him off but he too seemed to enjoy the attention he was getting from me!! Good luck I hope I have helped x

she's just defending her area my in-law's dog is the same way ( mutt)
the trainer told my in-law to take a soda can, empty it , cut the top, put coins in it , tape up the top & every time the dog barks when you think it should not bark say a firm NO
& shake the can @ the dog. The noise is suppose to
get the dog to stop barking & then the dog will learn not to bark @ that certain thing. Good luck

My dog (border collie and beagle mix) is the same way. She barks at anyone who comes in the proximity of our yard. We started out with one of those collars that shocked her everytime she barked--that hardly worked because she would just ignore the shock and keep barking. Then we got one of these collars and when she barks it sprays out a fragrance that smells like lemon to humans, but apparently dogs hate the smell. It stopped her barking right away. I don't know the exact brand, but we bought it at petsmart and an employee there should be able to guide you to it.

My dog always barks when people walk up our road. It doesn't bother me at all. It is his natural instinct and duty to let me know that someone is around. Once, he kept barking ( would not let up). I looked out the window to see a man run through the yard. He had stolen my neighbor's purse. I was able to identify the thief. Thanks to our boxer. Consequently, the thief had also at an earlier time tried to steal our dog. Caught him that time too.

There are a bunch of things you should know about dog training but we are going to discuss what I feel are some the most important. Keep in mind that these are only some of the things you should know. Go here http://OnlineDogTraining.enle.info/?aO1a
1. Repetition is the number 1 principle of dog training. Dogs just like humans learn by doing things over and over in order to get better.
2. Dog Training can and should be fun for both you and your new pet.
3. Training sessions should always be short but sweet. I never work a dog more than 15 minutes in a session to keep from losing the dog's attention. You should train you dog at least once a day but never more than three formal sessions a day.
4. Your goal should be that each training session is just a little bit better than the last one. You need to always strive to make the training better, slowly. I mention this because quite often I see people who do daily training sessions but the dog never gets better and it is not the dogs fault.
5. Having patients is very important in dog training. Losing your temper does not work with a canine it simply makes things worse.
6. Exercise is very important in the training process to get rid of all the dogs nervous energy.
7. Taking your pet for walks is very important because it develops serotonin which gives your dog a feeling of well being.
8. Always be sure to give your dog a bunch of praise in your training. It is your dog's paycheck for doing a great job.
9. Never hit your dog. I have heard people say I never hit my dog instead I roll up a magazine and swat it. It's the same thing... hitting is hitting.
10. After each training session be sure to do something that your dog will enjoy. Take it for a walk, throw the ball or maybe even rub its belly. Just do something that makes the dog look forward to the next training session.
These are things that I teach my dog training students as well as my dog training clients. I hope these things will give you something to think about when training your dog. Spend some time training your dog daily and you will both reap the benefits.

you can buy electronic collars that give off a short burst (low voltage) every time it barks. I think you can get them over the net
