depends on the breed. Some are better with children than others. I breed boxers and have a 5 year old and a 17 month old and haveno worries about the interraction between the dogs and kids

I really dont think that with a new baby you will have time for a puppy as well. A puppy would be like having two newborn babies to look after. It would be very difficult indeed. As for how your pup would be arond your baby, you have to keep in mind that your pup will go through the chewing stage, and may nip your baby when it is teething. It doesnt know this is incorrect, but depending on the breed, it could very well hurt the baby. The best suggestion I could give you is to wait untill your baby is at least crawling so that it is not quite so fragile and adopt an adult dog that is good with kids. You will have less to worry about with the dog harming your child, and a dog who is already comfortable around children will (in theory) not retaliate when the child pulls pokes and otherwise torments it.

In my eyes as long as you let the puppy be around the baby from the very start it will be fine. I have dogs and they have never offered to harm the kids in any way. In fact with the babies they seem to know that they have to be careful around them. Animals have brains and they know the differances between adults and kids. As for the bread of dog that doesn't matter either if you treat one with love and kindness it will do the same. Of course you will have to keep and eye on the baby because they tend to like to climb and pull on dogs. However sense you will have had the 2 together by the time you child is walking it should be fine you dog will be other a use to it. GOOD LUCK and don't worry

No, I don't think they would interact well. Puppies can be too rambuncious (sp?) for small kids and haven't yet been socialized. Now, if you were to get a dog, not a puppy, that has been around children, then you'll be fine.

I dont think so because maybe your puppies teeth are still growing. At that stage of a puppies growth they need to chey on things. Just like a baby. hope things work out

puppies are puppies... and they will always be nippy. It doesn't mean they would try to HURT your child... it just means as puppies they dont know what is right or wrong, and it takes training for that...
dogs that grow up around children is entirely possible... you just have to be prepared for "two" babies
and of course it depends on the breed.. they say no chihuahuas? i always found that crazy. must feel threatened cause of their size?
and sam below me? that is NOT true. my pit mix is the sweetest, most loving babe in the world.

I certainly wouldn't get a puppy with a new baby. Unless you are dilligent about training your dog, it's going to be hard. I would wait on the dog....
