This is an excellent question! Christian themselves are confused too. This is the most confused form of worship and none of the Christians know, who is who. the Priests and clergymen are becoming gay because of this confusion.

What is the trinity?
The Trinity can also be called the "Godhead". It is the 3 main Persons of God. It is God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. All 3 are God and no part is greater than the other.(Holy Spirit is God: Acts 5:3-4, 2 Cor. 3:18 / Jesus is God: John 1:1,14,17-18 / God the Father is God: He is mostly in the old testament and Jesus called Him "Father") All 3 are equal (Matt. 28:18-20). The word "trinity" or "Godhead" is not in the bible, but the bible clearly shows that God has 3 distinct Persons.
1) Genesis 1:1 "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth."
The word "God" in this text is Elohim(spelling?) in Hebrew which is God plural.
2) Genesis 1:26 "Then God[Elohim] said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness..."
Genesis 3:22 "And the LORD God said, 'The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil...
Genesis 11:7 "Come, let us go down..."
3) The trinity consists of God the Father, God the Son(Jesus), and God the Holy Spirit.
-God the Father
Matthew 5:48 "Be perfect, therefore as your heavenly Father is perfect.
-God the Son(Jesus/Immanuel)
Isaiah 7:14 "Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel."
"Immanuel" means "God with us"
This was fullfilled in Matthew 1:22-23
-God the Holy Spirit
Genesis 1:2 "Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.
4)All Three at the same time can be found in this passage:
Read Matthew 3:13-17
Matt. 3:16-17 "As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting on him. And a voice[God the Father] from heaven said, 'This is my Son[Jesus], whom I love; with him I am well pleased.'"

All Christians except the oneness agree in the trinity. One God, three jobs. God the Father, the creator, a Spirit, and God the Son, Jesus, our redeemer and God the Holy Spirit, the comforter, convictor and teacher. A crude example is an egg, its a white, yolk and a shell, or even better water, in the form of ice, steam and drinking water.

Great question and one that every one has to deal with.
Jesus is God, becoming flesh (human). He is the physical incarnation of God. The tern "Son of God" in the Hebrew culture of the time would have been a very serious thing indeed. Because in that culture, it meant that Jesus was actually claiming to be God, which of course He is. But Jesus is the physical manifestation to our human consciousness and physical reality that the living God affords us. It's his way of identifying wit us as one who has the same physical trials, aches and pains as we do. But, He is able to live life as every human was intended to live it, in harmony and full communication with the living force, the loving spirit that is God.
Here is a free on line book that may help you get a better grip on this.

In one the stories of Genesis (not the King James version) Adam and Eve Gave some of their blood as a sacrifice to God. God told them since he didn't ask them to do it but did for repentance of their sins, he would come back to earth in the flesh and shed his blood for Adam and Eve's descendants. And his blood would fall on their heads. Meaning he would be elevated above them. ie the cross.
And he would do it in the land of Golgotha. That is where Jesus was crucified.
In the New Testament, Jesus said,"My father and I are one."

he was god in the form of a human when he was alive on earth. Jesus is a part of God, like a father and son.

Like an ambassador who speaks for his leader. The Father carries the family name of God. Jesus is from his Father and speaks his words. They have the same family name. Jesus is the son who does not speak but what the Father has told him. However, as the son who carries on his Fathers name he speaks for him. Like an ambassador who knows what his leader wants he would never speak on his own. He represents something bigger than himself. Jesus is God's word and the truth. He is the authority who wrote the text. Yet, the word is not just a book it is a person. LIGHT-LIFE-EVERLASTING

Jesus is God, God's Son, and the Holy Spirit. They are all one and the same.
Don't try to wrap your mind around that one, only the work of the Holy Spirit within you can open your mind to that truth.
If you are truely in search of this truth, you will find it.
God bless.

He's all of it. Have you ever heard of the trinity. Father Son Holy Ghost? They are all one in the same, but this makes it easier to explain. Jesus live in us through the Holy Spirit. It's a little confuzing, and pretty hard to wrap your mind around, but he's seperate and all three.

My own belief is that God the Father, Jesus and the Holy Ghost are three separate and distinct individuals. I believe they are one in purpose, but not 3 in one person. That never made sense to me. I believe Jesus to be the son of god. Sent here to redeem us from our sins and the example we look to for our redemption. Just my opinion.

how can we fathom something our brains weren't made to handle? we are in earthly bodies, with HIGHLY limited earthly thinking. dont hurt yourself, but think of this: Jesus is Gods Son yet He and God are one, as is the Holy Spirit. The best way I can explain this is like an egg. There is a shell, egg white, and yolk, yet they are still an egg. that is a bad example though because to explain this phenomenon id have to have something to compare it to, but this is earth and thats nearly impossible.
