It's a good diet. Go buy the book. Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution. Don't even try it without reading the book becasuse most of what everyone thinks they know about the Atkins diet is wrong.
Dr. Atkins spent his life being trashed by ignorant people who never tested the diet or read the book.
It is not a temporary quick weight loss diet. It is a healthy diet you stick to for life. Dr. Atkins also recommends excercise. The first two weeks are difficult, as you need to cut your carb consumption to about 20 grams, which is very little. After that, you can add some carbs back in, as long as you continue to meet your weight goals.

The Atkins diet does work- but everyone is different. I ate this way for several months about a year ago. Before the diet, my cholesterol was normal- right before I stopped the diet my cholesterol was VERY high- my doctor wanted to put me on medication to bring it down! I am only 27! I told her to give me a month and I'd come in and have it tested again- I ate leaner that month and did not follow Atkins. When I went back in, my cholesterol was back to a normal range!!! I suppose I am probably more prone to having higher cholesterol though- as it runs in my family- AND if you do this diet- don't overdo it! Don't sit around and eat fatty ribs all day. Don't fry everything in so much oil! Do this diet sensibly. After you've been eating this way for a couple months- do go in and have your cholesterol checked- if it's high, you can modify your diet a bit. Leaner protein, more whole grains, reduced fat cheeses (even though they have more carbs). There is a happy medium. Also, prepare to be VERY tired and sluggish when not eating many carbs. The fewer carbs you eat over a longer period, the more tired you feel. If this happens, start adding more grains- a small cup of oatmeal in the morning.....half an apple with lunch. Who knows though, maybe your body was made for this diet and your cholesterol will stay low and you'll have tons of energy! Like I said, everybody is different, just be careful- and go in for that check up.

It works and it is actually the healthiest way to eat for life. That said, it's hard to do unless you are someone who can live without bread and processed foods. For the first few weeks, you cannot eat ANY bread, pasta, rice, breading, anything with sugar (even salad dressings, ketchup, etc.), crackers, anything at all with grains or grain products. You can only eat a small amount of certain veggies each day and no fruit whatsoever. You cannot have soda or even diet soda because the artificial sweetener interferes with the diet. You cannot have milk or milk products such as yogurt. You can basically eat all the meat you want, lots of cheese, moderate vegetables (but not the starchy ones like corn, carrots or potatoes, and limited amounts of "sugary" ones like tomatoes) and moderate olives, nuts and peanut butter. It's a very, very, very hard diet to follow, but if you can do it, it works 100% most definitely. But once you go back to eating grains, the weight will come back instantly. Trust me, my hubby and I did it several times and it happened just as I said. I would recommend instead Dr. Mercola's Total Health Plan. See the link below. He is an expert on weight loss, and it works.
P.S. The 3 comments above mine are incorrect. Atkins does not cause you to lose muscle. It is a good diet, but it's hard for Americans to stick to because it's not how we are raised.

Okay I've performed each so ... First of all for those who've most effective misplaced five lbs in a single month on a vegetarian nutrition you most commonly have not been workout and/or you could have taken in too many energy. Just seeing that it is non carnivorous does not imply its low calorie. Now as for ATKINS run....do not do it. I notion I used to be so sensible and so did all of the individuals I satisfied to move on Atkins reason I misplaced 29 lbs in a month, BUT... no longer most effective did the burden come correct again the minute I bought again to the truly global and ate a couple of carbs. however I received again extra, plus I grew to become a B*tch at the same time in this nutrition. CRANKY!!! and it used to be sooooo difficult to pay attention as your mind has no power as a result of the loss of carbs. It's so bodily dangerous too. It used to be a laugh for the primary couple of days, bacon, cheese, steaks, salmon, nuts... AKA fats fats fats fats fats fats...then you definitely begin to consider like a pan of oil. Makes me in poor health recalling this nutrition. How approximately including a bit of lean protein to the veggie nutrition and activity the burden off, then you'll be able to have a company toned frame.

You lose more muscle mass than fat on the Atkins diet. That alone will make it quite easy to gain the weight back and be in worse shape than when you started.
