My boy friend and I adopted a lab/shep/husky X about one month ago, who is about 6 mos old. He is a great boy and listens well.

My only problem is that he is totally a Mamas Boy. He likes my boyfriend too, but he cries when I leave, wedges himself between my boyfried and myself on the couch/in bed and is ALWAYS on me heels at home.

I don't think I've done anything to encourage it, in fact I am the one who is harder on him training wise..we both feed him, take him for walks, play with him, etc.

He even sometimes looks like I've kicked him or something when I give my cats or my boyfriend a kiss and not him???

Any suggestions on how to work him out of this funk?

Yah, it's cute, but the babe is already 60 Lbs at 6 mos, I'm afraid it'll get to be just too much when he is full grown!! My house is only like 500 square feet, by the time he is full grown, I'll be tripping on him everywhere.

My BF has actually been to pansy with him. He won't use the stern voice, even like the normal training tone...he just says aw..he's a pup, he doesn't know any better..to which I of course tell him that he'll never know any better unless we tell him...yep, we are having some conflicts on how to train a pup. But no, I don't think that my BF has upset him in anyway...though he was pretty cautious of all men when we got him....
perhaps his first owner turned him into a mamas boy, or even the first male owner was a jerk that the pup thought he had to protect the woman.....no way to tell, he came from the pound, but someone definitly loved him...sadly, just not enough to look for him at the pound (worked out for me!!)

actually, funnily enough, my boyfriend was with the dog 20 minutes before I got to the pound on adoption day and spent another 40 min with him while I filled out the papers...

It isn't unusual for animals to do the "opposites attract" thing. The fact that you are training and disciplining him makes him want to please you the most. Generally though, pets often choose the opposite sex as their favorite. It may help to try to show less excitement toward seeing him when you get home. He's developing a case of "separation anxiety". If you do a search on that, you'll find a lot of information. Also, it doesn't take much of an event between say, your boyfriend and the puppy, to cause the puppy to be fearful. Have you asked your boyfriend if he's been unusually stern-voiced, or has disciplined the pup in some way when you weren't around that didn't get a good reaction?

Male dogs will often lean to the opposite sex for some reason. Don't get why either. Dogs will choose their master. Did you bring him home. First contact thing. Shepards are very often a one master dog. They will live in a family but one person will dominate & they are quite possessive. Owned a few over the years. They were great dogs. Loved the kids but I was the boss & they were mostly at my feet. Nobody else dare try to bath them. It just wasn't happening but me. Like they knew no scence fight her. They were fun.

what your dog is doing is claiming you. you are his period. you need to stop encouraging him by not letting him sleep with you, or wedge between you two. if he whines and cries get a jar of coins and shake it at him. this is going to scare the @#%^ out of him but it works it's telling him that this type of behavior is not acceptable. if you allow him to continue with this type of behavior he may become aggressive when other people approach you and that's not cute. dogs don't associate you disciplining them as you don't love them. for more tips watch the dog whisperer on the national geographic channel

great canines tend to be offered at 8 weeks, yet small breeds desire longer. Your "mama's boy" canines is studying his manners. in case you may no longer even wait 2 weeks on your canines to be waiting, then have exciting potty preparation a Pomeranian. get waiting for hell.

Why would you? He loves you and the whole thing sounds cute to me. My chihuahua is attached to me and she is female. She barks at my 7 year old and doesn't pay my husband hardly any attention. Is me and only me she wants to be with it when she isn't playing with her toys that is.
