When I'm in need for ideas for non-conventional cakes, I always search through the Wilton website for some fantastic ideas! I did a little preliminary searching and found a really cute monkey cupcake:

Here's a cute monkey cake that can be made with a very inexpensive Wilton character cake pan called "Animal Crackers," or you can even make it with a round cake pan...and cutting the ears out of a second layer. I have this pan and it's very versatile!

Keep searching on the website and you'll find a host of other ideas -- for you sister's birthday...and for many other special occasions in your future!

Monkey Cakes......click on picture; gives directions how to make. Some use bowls for the head shape, others a cake mold pan.

you can use a round cake pan (a normal 8 or 9 inch pan) and a muffin pan. Make one head out of the cake pan and 2 ears and a nose out of the muffin pan. It's really cute. Then you can decorate the top with candy or icing. Have fun!

If Wilton makes a pan of any shape that you might want, you can get it at Michales Art Supply or some times J.C. Penney or other creft supply stores.
