I think that an airplane propeller would probably be a simple thing you could easily make out of the materials you listed. You could buy some short pieces of balsa wood and glue toothpicks to the ends, then use half a styrofoam ball as the hub to connect them together, sticking them into the styrofoam with the toothpicks.

Make a pair of flip flops. Easy and simple. All edible and fun.
1 large baking potato, and 4 green beans (or you could use Twizzlers).

Base of the Flip-Flops -
Bake and cool the potato (Microwave is quick and works for beans too). Steam the green beans until just flexible.
Slice the potato length-wise. You need to get two bases, each about 1/4" thick.

Push the breen beans into the top of each of the bases. Spread the loose ends of the green beans, one to the left and one to the right. Give them a slight bend and find the correct spot and poke them through on each side of the potato. Do the same thing with the other base.

You should now have a pair of flip-flops.

Below is a link to a picture. To do more stuff like this, check out the book "the secret life of food". Totally easy 3-D stuff.

You could make a Sundial. This is a device used to show the time by the shadow of a rod or plate on a scaled dial. It consists of a square box with the top marked with a circle and scale corresponding to time(s) of the day. Right from the centre to the edge of the circle (radius of the circle) is a triangular flap erected at angle to the sun which casts a shadow to the scale on the top of the box. As the sun moves (relative to the earth movement), the shadow on the box moves as well hence times can be calibrated on the circular scale.

Hmmm

What about a playground swing?

You could use kitchen foil for the chains. Make little hoops and loop them together. A bit of wood for the seat maybe from a lolly pop stick. You could make the frame from drinking straws or something.

Its just an idea. I will give it some more thought and see if I can come up with something else.
