just ask him. you can be sly by asking something like "so what's your plans this weekend? big date?"

Depends how much he is into her and how deep the relationship is but one thing is for certain if he is normally quite reserved he will have more of a smile on his face than he usually has and if he is normally happy and chatty then he will not shut up about his gf
all of the above applies mainly if she means anything meaningful to him.
@ work drop it into conversation with your girly mates say something like
"out of all the guys here who do you think is the most loyal and whos the biggest player"
and Id win your survey for being loyal ;D
my dropping your thoughts into a convo, may seen a bit cheesy but its an idea and to be honest, well personally there would only be a handful of people who would initially twig that you like a certain guy and your wondering how well he is viewed and who knows you may find out more dirt on him in the process

Just get chatting too him - you will soon figure it out. If you are too shy wait until a works night out and just ask him after a few drinks. Most men can't help but drop their girlfriends into conversations - makes them seem desirable!

The best way to know for sure is to ask him. Why try to look for signs and guess? Ask him if he's seeing anybody.

I'd look for:
does he use fabric softener?
does he bring nice left overs for lunch?
does he always match?
does he get more than common personal phone calls?

Talk to him. Bring it up slyly. Look for stuff from "her" or pictures. I mean on the desk. Don't snoop or that will instantly strike you out.

will his clothes may be ironed or he might have that well kept look, sometimes it would be hard to say, best you ask him straight out, that would be the best way.

Bring up the subject of a girlfriend as if he has one.
"Oh that's a nice sweater, did your girlfriend buy it?"
If he has a girlfriend he'll say "no she has horrible taste"
if he doesn't he'll say "no my mom bought it, I don't have a girlfriend."
