You can get something called a bark collar that reacts when the dog barks. I'm not sure how it works but it is completely painless. I wish my neighbours would invest in one before I am driven to introduce their mutt to the business end of a garden fork!

Hi I have got a neighbour who was having the same problem with her little yorkie. Turned out he was scared of being on the lead. She got him used to it by walking him round the garden a few times a day to make being on the lead a fun experience. If it was raining she would walk him around the house, take it off and put it on again whilst smiling and praising him. Does your dogs "shackles" go up when he barks?(Does he seem scared or confrontational?). If scared (shackles up)then I am sure this will work with time and patience. All the best x

I have a yorkie & she goes mad every time she sees her lead. She used to bark all the way down the road and try to jump up to get the lead out of my hand. I was told she is doing this out of excitement. I had to keep telling her no all the time & refused to walk anywhere until she stopped. It took ages & alot of patience for her to finally learn not to do this. If you persevere your dog will soon learn too that you refuse to go anywhere until she stops. My little one is as good as gold now cos she knows I wont take any nonsense.

Yorkies r yappers, they r small and need 2 b heard its their way of saying "im here". get a plastic bottle, half fill it with small stones. when he barks u 1 sharp rattle the bottle, he will stop 4 a second coz he's scared of the loud noise. he will probably bark again if so u sharp rattle again. only rattle when he barks when he stops u said good boy. this will take some time but if u persist it will pay off. (just remember don't rattle unnecessarily he will get used 2 it)

When you go out take a empty plastic water bottle with a few pebbles in the bottom (with the lid on). Whenever your dog barks just shake the bottle and he'll stop. Give him a couple of days and it'll stop completely. Try it - it works.

You need to train him that not barking is good- take some treats and if he barks, as soon as he stops, give him lots of praise and a treat.
Alternatively, you could try shocking him as soon as he barks. A quick squirt with a garden sprayer (the type hairdressers use) or suddenly make 1 hard sudden shake of a plastic bottle filled with stones.
Another idea is, if he barks as soon as you go out the door, keep taking him in until he is quiet. I assume he like to go out so his reward of going out, is obtained by being quiet.
Hope this helps.

My mum had that problem with her German Sheppard (and MAN! was that bark loud even the vicar down the road could hear).
She took it to dog training classes.
Seemed to work. Now he only does it when he goes into the garden and not when out walking anymore.

i have a Yorkie. i took it to training classes and yes they're good to teach to sit etc. but the people told me about a certain collar you can get off the Internet. every time the dog barks (with the collar on) it gets a little spray of harmless gas in their face. i does NOT hurt them it just surprises them! lol! my dog has now quietened a lot and it really helped! the most important thing you should know about them is that they are dogs and that is their nature, however now we have socialised them into domesticated dogs things have to change. your dog is young please give he/she time. good luck!
