We had kittens and had to litter train them. We put a box where they were making messes, which was on a hardwood floor. We removed it once they were going to the proper boxes and there was a wet area under the box where urine soaked through. I bleached and the put baking soda down. The next morning I noticed they had made messes in the baking soda. How do I get rid of the smell and keep them from going back there???

like McLeod said: get yourself a bottle of Nature's Miracle. It's an enzyme cleaner that will neutralize the smell better than anything else out there. Depending on how big and how deep the stain is, you may need to sand that part of the floor, treat with NM and then seal it. If there's any scent left, the kittens, and any subsequent cats WILL find it and can very well use that spot as their own ....so it's important to sand, treat, seal VERY WELL. THEN, put a piece of furniture over that spot as an added precaution. Cat urine is nothing to mess around with. :-(

you will need to use a neutralizer to get rid of the smell. Depending on how much urine there was, it may have ruined the floor... deep in the floor.
What posessed you to use a box that could get soaked through?? and NOT change it often enough that it DID soak through?

Dude, you are so screwed. I hate to say it, but struth. Go to your local pet supply store. They have cleaners there... but you may have to strip and refinish that part of the floor. DON'T leave the baking soda there, though, they'll think (since it smells like their pee) that it's litterbox strata. Sorry, and good luck!
