I think that some Christians hate gays so much because all they know how to do is live and breathe the bible. They allow no room for new ideas and change. It's been like that for hundreds of years. Some people follow religions too strictly and don't realize change is needed and good.
I'm glad you support gay marriage, I do too. I'm not Christian, but I don't need religion to be humane and sensible.

Christians do not hate gay's, we hate the sin of homosexulality,
Homosexulaity and a homosexual are two different things entirely.
We want to ban homosexuality not just because it is a sin, but because it opens a pandora's box of other types of marriage, like plural marriage, (marriage between 2 women 1 man or 2 men to 1 women or 3 women to 1 man ect, ect.
And beastilaity marriage, Marriage between people and animals, (dont laugh, a women in Austrailia just recently married a porpose), this opens a door to many legal issues concerning propbate in the courts as if we needed to tie up the courts with more useless garbage

I am Christian and dont hate gays. My mother-in-law, husband's aunt, and uncle are gay. My reason for wanting to ban homosexual marriage is that you too being a Christian should know that marriage according to GOD is between a man and woman as in the beginning (Genesis) not man and man or woman and woman. When I voted for or against this law I voted AGAINST. Gay and lesibian relationships are becoming more of a fad. I see in elementary schools and middle school where my children go there are gay children and it is supposed to be "okay". This is morally wrong and to agree is saying women are made to carry babies so if a 11 years girl wants to have a baby then it is okay. I am sorry but I totally disagree with you.

I can't pretend to know the reasoning for every single american. Is some of it hatred or fear? Probably.
But I think a lot of people just want to preserve the definition of the word marriage, and don't really care if they have a "civil union" or the same thing just calling it something else. I know it seems like a lot of trouble over semantics, but I suppose some meanings are worth preserving.

I think that the reason they ban gay marriage or that they look down on it is because of people's fear that they will be forced to acknowledge the rights of others in this aspect of their lives. America was founded on freedom of choice and i believe that if to same sex peopl wish to marry they should have no problem being able to.

Hi - Most people are afraid of strangers. That's probably built into our brains by evolution. Gay people seem like strangers to straight people and therefore they are a threat. It's the same thinking that makes us afraid of people who are a different color or speak a different language or eat different kinds of food or live on the other side of the river.
It's all about fear and not about rationality.
If you don't like gays - don't marry one.

True followers of Christ don't hate anyone. God hates sin and there are many places in the Christian bible that says homosexuality is a sin. Sin corrupts the lives and souls of everyone it touches and as "One nation under God (you know the God of Abraham, Issac, and Jacob) we should at least try to up hold His law.

Christians do not hate gays. God does not hate gays either. If you know some that do, then they are wrong. What he does hate is the sin.

I don't hate gays. I just know there isn't any precedent for gay marriage in western culure. They can have civil unions and get all the rights they want. Instead, they want to be something they are not.

if you are a christian you should understand the bibles view of same sex relationships
According to the Bible book of Genesis, God himself created the differences between males and females. The record states: “God proceeded to create the man in his image . . . Male and female he created them. Further, God blessed them and God said to them: ‘Be fruitful and become many and fill the earth and subdue it.’—Genesis 1:27, 28.
Thus, in the laws given through Moses, God specified sexual practices that were abhorrent to him—namely, adultery, incest, homosexuality, and bestiality. (Leviticus 18:6-23)
Romans 1:26Â That is why God gave them up to disgraceful sexual appetites, for both their females changed the natural use of themselves into one contrary to nature; 27Â and likewise even the males left the natural use of the female and became violently inflamed in their lust toward one another, males with males, working what is obscene and receiving in themselves the full recompense, which was due for their error.
or the king james version.
romans 1:26-32 to cut it short
for even women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: and likewise also men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burning in thier lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseenly, and recieving in themselves that recompence of their error
the final part states- who knowing the judgement of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them
so in bible times people were deserving of death if they practised these things. I am not saying that is the case today but this is the christian teaching, I do not hate anyone and have worked with people who conduct themselves this way but it doesn't mean I agree with them.
