Wait about 6 months for the prices to really
start coming down. Because of the strong
competition on the internet, prices have
already started falling. Just to a search on
one of those price comparison websites.

I would recommend going with the Blu-Ray
over the HD DVD format (only time will tell
for sure which one will survive) because the
Blu-Ray format offers full 1080p, whereas
HD DVD only does 1080i.

There is talk in the industry of a universal
player that will do both. Have patience if
you want to get it all and save money at
the same time.

Never, Blu Ray and HD DVD will be fighting it out for a few years.
Meanwhile, Windows Vista will enable you to purchase and download any content you want. Most people will store video at home on huge servers or just buy/rent it for a few days. You are buying a new buggy whip when Henry Ford is about to flood the country with cars. Don't waste your money. I work in the communications industry and we got a HD DVD player and HD movie. It didn't look any better than a normal DVD because it wasn't filmed in HD. It will be a long while before movie cameras are changed over.

evaluate first no remember in case you may earnings from HD disks, and in case you may no remember if the cost top rate for the disks ($5-$8 on new releases and a lot of times extra on older action pictures) is properly worth it. to earnings you may have an HDTV --- 40" or bigger 1080p variety for finished earnings, yet a minimum of a 37"+ 720p for some earnings. looking on your particular subject you may desire to a million) anticipate hardware to mature and expenses to come back down, 2) purchase a Blu-ray participant now, or 3) purchase an upconverting DVD participant. Re determination 3 -- i.e. you have an HDTV which might furnish marginal earnings from HD disks -- in case you have a lot of DVDs and not a lot of money to spend you may evaluate a low end (HD-A3) HD DVD participant (See link: at the instant $a hundred and forty with 5 unfastened HD DVD disks).... it makes a sturdy DVD upconverting participant for much less funds than a sturdy DVD in basic terms upconverter. in spite of the shown fact that, word this option is probable a lifeless end determination considering that in some unspecified time sooner or later there is probably no longer new HD DVD video clips available. yet while offered as by and massive a DVD participant that's a low value determination than a Blu-ray participant (which will do the comparable upconversion). i might strongly propose you audition a HD disk participant on a television equivalent to in spite of you have and learn HD and SD variations of the comparable movie (play on the comparable participant) to make sure what progression you will get. that each and every person stated Blu-ray is the main secure determination and has the broadest variety of flicks available.

Wait at least 6 mo, preferably a year. Both formats are having problems, and BluRay is suffering picture quality issues. I have seen HD-DVD and the picture is outstanding, but there are operational issues with the player. Also, there is a chance that after a year there will be multi-format players so you won't be restricted to one or the other when buying or renting discs. Also, I think that the prices of BluRay are way too high at present.

Yeah they seem to have many bugs. The first generation mechines to me left a lot to be disired. I will probably wait untill 2 things happen.

1. toshiba(HDDVD) and sony(Blu-Ray) come to an agreement and put out one format. Then every electonics company will make a unit and competition will bring down Prices.

2. After they settle and the second generation machines ( 2nd generation for the new format) have been debugged I'll wait for the third generation to buy one.

By then it might be time for a new tv tchnology to come out. (SED)

i would wait a year or 2. at the moment the latest connection formats for HDMI have yet to be applied and blu-ray are still using standard DVD encoding which in many cases makes them worse then standard DVD.
