My 14 year old daughter has naturally (med) blonde hair that is dyed black. We do the color at home,as we cannot afford to have done at a salon.
She would like to go lighter now and we did try a color that showed that she could acheive the shade she wanted going from the black she currently has, but it didn't work at all. Can anyone recommend a certain brand/shade that we will have success with?PLEASE HELP!!

Hey I am not a hair professional but I went from deep chesnut brown to honey blonde.
The first ime I went to a cosmotolgy shool and had a student do it , which only cost me 15 dollars plus a tip .
So look up a cosmotolgy school in your area.
But if you are attempting this at home DO NOT bleach ,
Go red then a lighter red then a ash blonde then a warm blonde (non ash )

DYE CANNOT COLOR OVER DYE..... You are going to have to bleach the black out...it will take more than one bleaching to remove the color...it will ruin the texture of her hair....so I do not suggest all over bleach ...

The best thing to do is going to be high lites...it will lighten the overall color without completely ruining the hair.....you can pull it though a cap...but you will still probably have to bleach it twice.. You can buy the bleach, 30 volume developer, high-lite cap, and toner you will need at Sally's

after pulling hair through the the holes in the cap, apply bleach and cover with a shower cap....blow the cap on the outside with a hair dryer with heat...it will speed the bleach process up....after about 20 min..the hair is going to be about as light as one application will get it....do not remove the highlighting cap, but rinse the bleach off of the hair...the hair will be orange....you will then towel dry the hair on the highlight cap, and reapply the bleach to the hair...repeat the shower cap and blow dryer....the hair will be a yellow brassy tone after this process..

you will need to buy a toner at Sally's beauty supply...a good color is going to be something with a blue violet base in a level 7...the will lighten up the hair a lot..and if you want it even lighter...wait about 5 days for the hair to get over the processing and repeat the high lites again

When you color your hair at home remember this advice for keeping colored hair as healthy as possible:

Protect and condition your hair and scalp regularly.
Don't stray far from your natural level and tone. Dramatic color changes require more upkeep, since outgrowth becomes very obvious very soon (This reasoning also applies to texture services).
Follow your stylist's recommendations for home-care regimen.
Color-enhancing shampoos do work, helping you hold on to your desired color between salon or at-home color treatments, so do try them out.
Be especially vigilant about protecting chemically treated and naturally colored hair from the sun.
The less you chemically process your hair, the healthier it remains.

I think Garnier Fructis would be a good produt for you.
