What sorts of things should I do before running again to make sure my calf doesn't do this again?

Stretch and walk. Do some walking before running. Don't sweat the small stuff. Think positive. Help an old lady cross the street.

i would say stretch lightly for 2-3 days and then ease back into running... dont run as hard nor as far as you use to for at least 2 weeks.... otherwise you will definitely strain your calf again, and then it would take longer to recover.

dont overdo it, thats why your getting the calf strain
