Start by walking for an hour everyday. Then after you get comfortable with the routine start jogging, about 2 miles a day. Everyday. A good time is 15 mins or less. But you won't be able to do that at first.
Pilates are ok but they are more for toning or keeping toned what you already have.
Cardio means your hearts fitness. Running, riding bicycle, swimning. All are great and will help you loose weight and tone up.
Even if you don't loose weight, you can tone up and still look tight and sexy.

The two best ways to lose that little extra but keep your figure the way you want it are:
(a) Circuit training with weights, where you go directly from one exercise to another with little or no rest. For each exercise, choose a weight that is 65% or 70% of the absolute most weight you can lift ONE TIME with proper form -- your one-rep max -- do 12 repetitions of each exercise, taking one second to raise the weight and two seconds to lower the weight, and do the entire circuit twice. Most gyms have a circuit training set-up, but if you can't find a gym that has one here's a good one: (1) Squats, (2) Bench presses, (3) Lat pulldowns, (4) Military presses, (5) Shoulder lateral raises, (6) Triceps pushdowns, (7) Leg extensions, (8) Biceps curls, (9) Leg curls. Do the circuit all the way through twice for each workout, and do the circuit workout three times a week. After two weeks, do the circuit all the way through three times. Don't do any type of aerobic or cardio exercise in conjunction with circuit training -- it'll be counterproductive to your efforts.
(b) High-intensity interval training -- pick an aerobic exercise you like; say jogging, cycling, rowing, swimming, etc., and after warm-up and stretching do a 30-second "sprint" followed by 90-120 seconds of "slow jog pace" exercise. Repeat 8-12 times. As you get used to it, you can increase your sprint time, decrease your low-pace time, and add repetitions, but don't do HIIT for more than 30 minutes TOTAL at one time.
P.S.: Pilates is an exercise that is similar to yoga that can be very good for weight loss and flexibility -- most gyms have Pilates classes and you can buy Pilates DVDs for every experience level on Amazon.com and barnesandnoble.com. Cardio refers to any type of sustained-pace exercise that gets your heart rate up anywhere from 70% to 90% of your maximum heart rate -- includes jogging, cycling, kickboxing, aerobics, rowing, elliptical machine, Stairmaster, etc.

Exercise....
for your stomach and legs i would suggest lying on your back on the floor with someone standing at your shoulders, put you legs all the way up and have the other person push your legs toward the floor, while keeping them straight, don't let your feet touch the floor, and start over again.... you would think it would only help your legs but you feel the burn almost immediately in your abs.
another thing for your legs i would suggest running, and doing stitches (running like 4 feet, then back then 6 feet then back, then 8 feet and so on.)
For your arms.... push ups and/or pull ups (i say push ups first because it's very hard to do pullups when your arms aren't in shape.... i can't do 1.)
Another suggestion i would have for you is Yoga.... it will help tone your body and also its relaxing.

Working out will help you to get thinner, and also tone up your muscles.
Pilates is one hell of a workout that works with your core, and is great for toning up. Ever since I had my surgery (kidney removed) I had excess skin everywhere since I had lost over 50 pounds in a very short amount of time. I have begun doing pilates and it sees almost like magic that after only 2 weeks, I am more toned, and look much healthier. If you need more information, go to your local gym and ask a trainer for information. They will be able to help you determine what would be good for your age, body type ad healthy for you.

Buy a gym membership and don't eat any food w/ extra sauces/ creams .
If you feel like munching snack on veggie chips or fruit chips(Go to your local co op.
And never ever look at the scale while trying to lose weight ....weight doesn't come off fast the first week you try to lose weight or tone up you might only lose a pound and you might get discouraged ...
Leaving you stop working out and eating right!
Good luck !!

well, just eating a little better would help, i mean it depends on what you are eating if you use margerine instead of butter then margerine is fat and trans fat objects can cause cancer and other health issues including weight gain also try eating less potato products eat more meat then potato and try bellydancing or standard excercise if you just need to turn the fat to muscle
remmember even if you gain weight or dont lose anything Muscle weighs more then fat does
