Sexual relations are not the only ha'ram (sinful) thing. Thinking about sexual relations is also ha'ram unless its about your spouse. this is much more difficult for men than women. Especially around women who don't cover. Also, there is a saying that when a man and woman are socially together (and not married) that the devil will come and entice them. Muslims believe its much better not to even be enticed.

In any interaction between male and female there is a sexual component...however small, it is there. In a scociety where men have no real oportunity to interact with women they are not able to develope the ability to deal with the sexual component of the male/female relationship.

any thing that could lead to sex before marriage is being disliked in Islam. sex outside of marriage is a great sin in Islam. God is not a joke, and His Hell is not a joke.
